Just before the time jump to 1975, the sound of the TARDIS can be heard just before the Waverider jumps.

While in 1975 team members are seen watching an episode of Welcome Back, Kotter (1975). DC Comics actually published a Welcome Back Kotter comic book series in 1976-78.

Rip mentions "Per Degaton" who is a classic time traveling villain from the golden age of comics.

Arthur Darvill plays Rip Hunter, a time traveler. Previously, he played a companion to a time traveler in the BBC series Doctor Who (2005). Also, companions to the Doctor were River Song (Alex Kingston) and Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman). Alex Kingston (as Dinah Lance) and John Barrowman (as Malcolm Merlyn) have both starred in Arrow (2012) which belongs to the same world as Legends of Tomorrow.

The meeting place where the team gathers before entering the Waverider is located at West Waterfront Road Vancouver, BC Canada.

One of the objects cursed by Savage (at 22:23 in the episode) appears to be the Maltese Falcon.

Glen Winter, the director of this episode, previously directed _"Smallville" (2001) {Absolute Justice, Part 1 (#9.11)_ which also featured a team of DC characters, including Hawkman, coming together.

In the comics, Rip Hunter is leader of the Time Masters.

Contains two Star Wars references where Chronos is referred to as both a Darth Vader and a Boba Fett lookalike

Dr. Martin Stein and Jefferson Jackson have now started to wear a suit while merged as Firestorm which resembles the outfit worn by Firestorm in the comics.

Arthur Darvill plays a time traveler in both Doctor Who (2005) and Legends of Tomorrow. In Doctor Who the TARDIS was stolen, in Legends of Tomorrow the Waverider was stolen. In Doctor Who it took 8 people to fly the TARDIS properly, in Legends of Tomorrow Rip Hunter collected 8 people for his mission. In Doctor Who the Doctor lies, in Legends of Tomorrow Rip Hunter lies.

When he gives his proposal to the Time Masters, Rip Hunter gives a short list of other evil people to compare with Vandal Savage. Caesar and Hitler are on that list. In Doctor Who (2005), Arthur Darvill's character Rory has connections to these two dictators. Rory was a Roman centurion in Doctor Who: The Big Bang (2010). In Doctor Who: Let's Kill Hitler (2011), he meets Hitler and then punches him in the face.

The waverider's camouflage is similar to Marvel the Avengers ship the Helicarrier camoflauge

Rip Hunter time traveling vehicle is called the Waverider, in the comic's the Waverider was a Hero who worked alongside Hunter in the Linear men, and he travelled using Time Spheres

First appearance of Chronos, bounty hunter

Lobo Bounty hunter was rumored to play the part that was Kronos the bounty hunter

Snart refers to Chronos as "Boba Fett"

I think this series is a good idea, but tricky to pull off. I like the way it was presented and look forward to seeing this group going on adventures together. It also answered questions as to what happened to each of these characters on their origin series. The writing is good and it still has that comic book feel of story telling, without being too silly or over the top. Directing, acting and effects are good. Crossover stories are okay, but a little thin in places. I never read the comic books to see how this compares.

The part that worked the least for me was how Laurel quickly gave her sister approval to join the new team on their mission, and even a new identity, and seemed so happy to send her off, possibly never to be heard from again! How does that fit in with her irrational desire to bring her sister, Sara, back from the dead and back to their father in Star City (last season of Arrow)?

In the age we live in, any television show or movie that features an unrealistic plot or "cheesy" dialogue is immediately attacked by most critical reviewers. There are times when this criticism is on the spot and deserved, but there are times when it goes too far as well. In my opinion, DC's Legends Of Tomorrow is a good example of the latter - it has gotten a staggering amount of negative reviews for things like unrealistic storytelling and cliché characters. I think people should remember that this is a show based on comic books about time travelling superheroes.

It was great when Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight -trilogy proved that superhero films can be dark and realistic (to some extent). But that doesn't mean that every movie and series should do the same. I actually respect Legends Of Tomorrow for capturing the comic book atmosphere so well. The story is admittedly ridiculous most of the time, but in a good way. It feels like watching an old-school superhero comic book - straight from TV. After all, when the point of fiction as a concept has often been to make things possible that couldn't happen in real life, it doesn't make sense for EVERYTHING to be down-to-earth and plausible. Everything that happens in this show is more or less crazy - and that's what makes it so entertaining for me.

This pilot episode had me hooked. Time travel has always been a fascinating storytelling device to me, and this show uses it well. As someone who hasn't watched Arrow or The Flash (except for the first episodes), the character introductions felt slightly rushed and confusing, but I liked them anyway. Arthur Darvill does a decent performance as protagonist Rip Hunter, who seems to be more of an intriguing and colorful character than the rest of the team (at least based on this episode). Atom, as well as both halves of Firestorm, seem like interesting characters as well. The rest of the main cast didn't especially interest me yet, but I'm sure they'll get more fleshed out in future episodes.

The main villain, Vandal Savage, makes a good first impression. He also serves as a good motive to bring the main characters together. I won't spoil anything for those who haven't seen this, but there's a certain twist towards the end of the episode that makes the story much more interesting. I think the future of this show looks bright, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

The directing by Glen Winter is solid, and the writers do a good job in setting up the story. The visual effects may not be state of the art, but they get the job done well enough. The instrumental soundtrack is surprisingly good, as it really captures the feeling of this team of characters on an epic mission. All in all, I really liked this pilot and I think it's getting too much negative criticism for being what it is - an entertaining sci-fi series that's fun and engaging to watch.

If you would have given me a choice as to what CW spin off I would want a year ago around this time, I don't think the Legends of Tomorrow we have now would have been it, but I was however excited to see the series based on the fact that Caity Lotz was being brought somehow after being killed off earlier that year in Arrow. But there's more to be excited about because this series is the first superhero team up on television. Yes, it may not have the most logical group of heroes/villains, Heatwave? Really? But I think the fact that the entire team is vastly different from each other may turn out to be for the best.

We begin with seeing Rip Hunter, a future "time master", who is tasked or rather tasks himself with bringing together a rag tag group of characters in order to take down the villainous Vandal Savage. Now, we don't get much at all of Savage in this episode, we do find out that he killed Hunter's son and wife, leading Hunter into the motivation to put this team together. Now, if you have been watching Arrow and The Flash you know that Savage 'died' in the crossover and his remains were picked up by none other than Malcom Merlyn. They push those logic issues aside and sadly don't include Merlyn in the episode at all, probably just due to scheduling issues. It would have been nice to see Merlyn make some sort of appearance but perhaps down the line.

The introductions to the characters were needed for new viewers but were kind of a bore for those who already know all about them. But seeing Stephen Amell was nice, even if it doesn't entirely make sense when this show falls under the current Arrow timeline, considering the team would be going through some hardships right about now and would not have time for a break. Also, wouldn't Ray have asked about Felicity?

The one big positive I have about the episode is knowing that everyone is so vastly different to the next character and I think the 16 episode arc will prove to give everyone their own time to shine. I would have to assume we will get a few filler villains every now and then because 16 episodes of just hunting down Savage may get tiresome. I'm also a big score/music guy and hearing everyone's individual themes while they fight was definitely cool.

I'm sure there will be more questions answered in the coming weeks such as if White Canary's blood lust will return? Will we see future Oliver and Barry? Will we see more cameos like Cisco? (How much would he geek out knowing he's time traveling?) or maybe just why Heatwave is even in this show in the first place? I ended up not hating him as much as I thought but some of his lines were so dumb and unnecessary. Overall, I enjoyed this week's opening to hopefully the next big CW show. The highlight was definitely the bar-fight in an otherwise uneventful episode. I really liked that the idea of them all being legends is actually more wishful thinking than anything else. It definitely gives them something to strive for. At the very least, I think this show will be fun. Though it would be nice if it was as good as Flash or Arrow.

+Unique team dynamic

+Potential of time travel

+Bar fight

+Not really legends

-Some stupid Heatwave moments

-Confused as to when it takes place in the Arrow timeline

7.7/10

I have to admit I'm a huge fan of Arrow and The Flash and first when I heard of this I was pumped and I thought maybe it would be the next great thing maybe better then both shows that I mentioned.

But unfortunately it was a huge disappointment , wasn't really what I expected I'm not gonna bring any spoiler for the respect of follow IMDb users but the acting is not good , the plot is simply ridiculous and all around while watching you feel that something is not good in this pilot.

The introduction of the characters is slightly boring and they are acting kinda superficial from what I've noticed , maybe it's just me who knows. Besides that some of the actors don't fit the role to be honest they try to act but you can see it clearly that they are overdoing it.

Oh well from what I've seen it's a bad start with this plot , actors , story , acting etc. And it will be really hard to fix it but who knows.

My rating for this episode is 5.0 , please forgive me Oliver Queen!

As origin stories go, this is perfect. We have been introduced to all these characters before and don't need to spend half the episode setting up the team and there characters like Suicide Squad.

(Writing this after seeing the entire thing, constantly waiting for them to coalesce into a cogent team.)

These incompetent, dysfunctional boobs traipse gaily through space and time, ostensibly to correct anomalies which have been created by time pirates/bandits, all the while creating anomalies of their own with no thought as to the consequences. As a result, the entire universe is in a state of flux brought about by their unwillingness to follow the most basic rule of time travel -- DON'T INTERACT WITH YOURSELF!

They are so dysfunctional that they cannot pull off a single mission without screwing it up.

The furtherance of the emasculation of men, by the Hollywood elite, is in full form. The men are incompetent and the women are the strong leaders with the clear heads.

The leader goes AWOL; and they have to choose a new leader. The man they choose couldn't pour water out of a boot if the instructions were written on the heel. Of course, after he freezes under the stress of having to make a decision, he hands off the leadership to the strong, gay woman.

They care more about their libidos than the mission. In one episode, the team are getting their a--es handed to them and the "leader" takes that time to have a tryst with another woman thus threatening the welfare of the team.

In another episode, George Washington is being marched to his own hanging; and two of those trying to prevent it take the time to get randy in a tent they captured from the Huns.

Whenever they have an opportunity to kill the bad guys, and save humanity, they either decide not to or are talked out of it by another team member.

Whenever they have to choose between the life of one of their own, or the possible extinction of all of humanity, they always choose the one over the many.

Their continued bad decisions make the series painful to watch.

They also think nothing of killing people in the past who are of "no consequence" such as British soldiers during the Revolutionary War. Who knows whether that Private's great, great, great great grandchild wouldn't find the cure for some terrible disease?

In addition ... we are treated to characters being introduced without so much as a "Howdy do." If you haven't been a watcher of "The Flash", "Supergirl", or "Green Arrow" you are just left in the dark. Characters just pop up and we are left to discover just what it is that they do, what powers they possess, or what they will add to the dysfunctional team or whether they will improve or diminish the quality of the group.

So just why WERE those Dominators so angry with Barry Allen aka "The Flash?"

(SHRUG) I don't watch "The Flash." (Or "Supergirl" or "Green Arrow")

Overall, the execution is poor; the story lines convoluted; and the characters disappointing.

HOWEVER ... the CGI and sets are fantastic.

I have to say immediately that I never had any contact with comics from DC's LoT. This opinion is based only on what I saw in pilot episode.

Whole pilot was funny, and when I say funny, I mean BAD funny.

Acting is ridiculous. Very plastic, there is no flow, everybody is very stiff, if you know what I mean.

Dominic Purcell, I liked him in Prison Break, here not so much, he is to fake, he's trying to hard.

Rip Hunter, English (of course), trying to be funny from time to time, but still doesn't deliver.

Caity Lotz, confused.

Franz Drameh, he looks like he wondered on to a set and started playing the role.

Brandon Routh, very bad version of Ant Man.

Ciara Renee and Falk Hentschel, bland.

Wentworth Miller, bad, but better than the rest of them.

Casper Crump, so Vandal Savage lived for 4000 yrs and couldn't learn English language. I know someone will say, but he was not born in English speaking world, but still, 4000 yrs...

Like I said, I never read the comics and that's very good, because if I did, I know I would be very very angry right now.

I don't know about the future of the show, I will try and watch at least 3 episodes, if they don't deliver by then, they never will.

My personal opinion is that DC is way way behind MCU, and they are trying to catch up, but everything is so fast and so badly put together. At least if you know that you are late, do it right.

It is funny, but that is all. I like the especial effects and the most part of the characters is interesting.

"Legends of Tomorrow"'s pilot offers an acceptable introduction to the idea and the characters of the show, but fails in delivering anything more than just an average episode.

The idea is pretty simple: Darvill's Hunter wants to stop Crump's Savage from conquering the Earth in the future, so he travels back in time to 2016 and gets a rag-a-tag of heroes to help him in stopping Savage. The group includes faces from both "The Flash" and "Arrow"'s shows: White Canary, the Atom, the couple of Hawkgirl and Hawkman, Stein & Jackson's Firestorm, and the brothers (and the best of the bunch) Captain Cold and Heat Wave. Hunter tells them they will be Legends and convinces them to jump into his time machine and fly back to 1975, where they will try to get more info about Savage and how to stop him.

As said above, the idea is simple, and the show delivers in introducing those familiar faces again in just a few moments, and in making us care about them. It also puts the basics of the story in a simple and easy to understand manner. Nonetheless, the show's basic story, travelling through time to change things little by little so Savage can be stopped in the future, is kind of flawed, and it will be interesting to see how they develop it without falling into nonsense and absurdity. Also, the action is just acceptable, nothing special and just seems to be put there to fill some empty moments.

The best this pilot has to offer are the characters, and Wentworth Miller's Captain Cold and Dominic Purcell's Heat Wave dominate every time they appear, especially Miller, who plays Cold with a continuous smirk and so much sarcasm it is palpable. Both him and Purcell can act together in their sleep, and with the addition of Caity Lotz's White Canary deliver the funniest moments of the pilot.

The show could be fun enough, in a silly and cheesy way. For now it does an acceptable job in introducing the characters. Let's see where it goes from here.
