So it ain't so. Why am I constantly disappointed every time I see a Rachel Leigh Cook movie? Her beauty always draws me in, but the lousy scripts that she's constantly attached to always leave me running for the exit. This film is just another example of a film maker taking a beautiful, talented actress and shoving her into a predictable cookie cutter film that lacks originality. I've seen this movie a hundred times before in the last 10 years and I guess I must be a glutton for punishment because as long as I read in the entertainment section of the paper that a goddess like Rachel Leigh Cook is going to be on the big screen I will show up. One of these days I'm hoping I will see her in a film that will be worthy of her talent. This film does not qualify.

Gorgeous bride-to-be Vanessa Sinclair, who starts fantasizing about every man she sees, and all of this right before the big wedding, so she seeks refuge in the church confessional. After pouring out her soul to the priest inside, Vanessa asks him to remain by her side to help her stay faithful until the big day. However, the man she believes to be a priest is actually the sexy local carpenter repairing the confessional. Before you can say "mistaken identity," motorcycle-riding ladies man Nick Francis has transformed himself into "Father Nick to seduce the blushing bride. But lust quickly turns into love, and the fake priest must find a way to stop the wedding and reveal his true identity before he loses the woman of his dreams forever.

So, what to say? Cute? Romantic? Actually, neither. Its just another sugar-water movie so if You are extremely bored and up for a naive brainwash go for this one, You may actually like it. Otherwise stay as far as possible :)

This movie was absolutely AWFUL. It was completely unrealistic and stupid with probably one of the dumbest plots I have ever witnessed. It was literally a waste of two hours of my life and a real disappointment for Rachel Leigh Cook. I like several of her movies but after seeing this ridiculous film I can't even look at her the same. The whole movie focuses on this love sick carpenter who does a complete 180 from his play boy ways after falling in love with an inappropriately horny bride to be. He poses as a priest and secretly yearns for her the entire movie trying everything he can to break up her wedding. Once again I have to reiterate the fact that he knew her for 2 days before "falling in love." Please, don't waste your time on this movie-if you want a great date movie go with She's All That.

I rented this on a rainy day without knowing much about it other than the plot written on the back of the DVD. A fake priest trying to fool a woman into sleeping with him three days before her wedding but falls in love? Far fetched, but might be entertaining. Wrong! The funniest moments of the movie come in the first 5 minutes before Kenny Doughty shows up. There is never a mention of where the movie is set, the accents are confusing - Kenny's character and his family and one man in a café speak with a strong British accent, everyone else I assume is Canadian/American?

Kenny's antics to keep Rachel's character and her fiancé apart are beyond ridiculous and no-one seems to pick up on how "out there" he is. Watching him play charades to reveal a "secret" and pretending to be possessed on their honeymoon is incredibly painful to watch. The shtick is entertaining for about 15 seconds then it's pure torture. How did Kenny's character get to the honeymoon location before the bride and groom and how on earth did he afford it? Since when do wealthy newlyweds honeymoon in their own towns (wherever the heck their town was)?

The ending is so trite and beyond belief, I guess if people didn't follow their instinct to turn the movie off 30 minutes in, a decision that had to be re-evaluated with every passing scene, they deserved to watch the rest of it.

I love Rachael Leigh Cook, but this movie doesn't help.....spoiler alert. the story is just awfully..... BAD! i mean it does kinda break some guy laws.. i mean.. you should never ruin another's person's wedding...love happening in under 24 hours? some movies get away with in, but they do it so more tastefully. The acting in the film was pretty eh... below par, not something to build a career on. the plot is just bad... i know i said it before, but I guess the hard part was that you never believe in the movie, nothing is believable, and you're just like love no, break a wedding just wrong... your more logical brain takes over. the plot is unoriginal at heart, girl been with long-time man, new man shows up... long-term man goes bye bye It's suppose to be a chick flick, but i doubt many girls will even like it. you could laugh though, but only at the stupidity of things or like the 'oh my gosh she didn't' parts.

this is a rent only film. serendipity has a similar base but is a much better film.

My fiancée wanted to rent this movie since we are getting married in about 4 months. I knew just from the cover I was going to hate it, but I just went along. Well, I did hate it. And so did she. The storyline was absurd; even though it IS a movie, no one in their right mind would believe that a real priest would act the way that the one in this movie does. The acting was definitely lacking - there were many scenes that just looked so unrehearsed it was sad. The priest character had some absolutely ridiculous acting scenes. I wouldn't waste your $3.95 or whatever you may pay to rent this one. I would have rated it a negative if that was an option.

It you are looking for a romantic comedy that leaves you rooting for the main characters DO NOT get this movie. I usually enjoy cheesy romances with good-looking, humorous characters but I couldn't handle this film.

At first the man pretending to be a priest was cute and charming but when he started to claim he was in love with RLC I wanted to barf. The only thing he knew about her to justify his obsession was that she was "beautiful and SO horny". Sounds like a great starting point for a meaningful relationship.

On top of this and many other annoying bits, the writers did a horrible job of making the fiancé someone would would forgive RLC for cheating on. He was actually a nice man who just got unlucky and fell in love with a @$*&%$@#.

Don't even bother.

This movie has some very funny scenes.

The lead actor is a natural comedian. He reminded me a little of a young Jim Carrey (not quite as over the top though.) I would expect that he might have a bright future ahead in the movie industry if more lead roles come his way.

The story is simple and enjoyable. It also has great comedic timing throughout the film. It won't win any Oscars but I have seen far worse scripts than this one.

I'm not sure why some previous reviewers were so harsh on it. It is a very upbeat, light and watchable movie.

They say nobody is perfect, but I'm starting to think Rachael Leigh Cook might be. She's had the bad luck of doing horrible things but she's also been blessed with parts in good movies; "My first wedding" stands in the middle. Directed by Laurent Firode and written by Joan Carr-Wiggin, this is your everyday romantic comedy but with an unusual theme in its story: a lust problem.

Vanessa (Leigh Cook) goes walking on the street and wants to have sex with every man she sees. This part is perfect for the young actress, whose looks are beyond sexy. Her gift for innocence also serves her very well here, as she confronts the 'holy' life of her character with the wild dreams she has every night.

So Vanessa is about to get married and she's trying to control her impulses because her fiancée Andre (Paul Hopkins) is very catholic and doesn't believe in sex before marriage. She enters a church to make a confession and Nick (Kenny Doughty), a carpenter working there, poses accidentally as a priest and listens to her problems. As he watches her walking away, he's stunned; so he offers more help with the troubles…Even when he's not a priest.

Longer into the film, when Nick says Vanessa is perfect it's impossible not to believe him. Rachael Leigh Cook is indeed perfect and she makes her character that way. However, the credit is not all Rachael's…The British Doughty is a gifted comedian and has the necessary charm for the role of Nick; a deceitful and winning ladies-man who has fallen in love.

Yes, we know how the story ends, but that's not a problem in almost every romantic comedy, because if you let yourself go (as I've said many times), things can work. One of this film's few problems is that it doesn't work even when you try to let go. The chemistry between the leads is believable, but maybe the situations they live take it too far.

This is not a problem when I watch any romantic comedy, but the little sense of reality and the distance the director seems to put from his characters are elements that don't end up helping the final result. Plus, some funny moments abuse of repetition and even when Doughty is funny, he can't do the same thing several times and still get a laugh.

"My first wedding" is a film you should see if you are a Rachael Leigh Cook fan. As I read somewhere, "she sizzles"; if you want to catch a romantic comedy where you can get carried away by what doesn't make sense and lies far from reality, get "13 going on 30" or "Love Actually".

Hi. Saw this on an afternoon on HBO with no expectations. I found myself laughing very hard at many parts. The charade part was especially hilarious ! Also, Nick's character and the acting from Kenny Doughty was great. Rachel Leigh looks great like always. Kenny is a great find and a nice English accent. So an OK movie by all means. See it if you have the chance on TV. I don't know why the previous posters were so mean with the film. Maybe they just expect every film to be Oscar level or a $100 million romantic comedy. It's just a Canadian/UK co-production and it succeeds at least in being funny. Watch it and you won't regret!

I saw this film at the Hollywood Film Festival recently and it was a lot of fun. It's a great date movie. In the film Rachael Leigh Cook is a jittery bride to be -- basically she's like a guy (only much cuter) who thinks about sex and buys all the time. She confides in her local priest only it's not her priest but the local carpenter and he falls in love with her and must stop her wedding. My date and I had a lot of fun watching this film and if you are a fan of Julia Stiles (Save the Last Dance, The Prince & I), Hilary Duff (Perfect Man) or Lindsey Lohan(Mean Girls) then you'll love this film!!! Take your boyfriend to see it and if you're a guy, trust me, take your girlfriend. I highly recommend it.

I did not know this Kenny Doughty character before, but boy he must be a funny actor in his native country...

Though first bill is done by my favorite actress, it is Doughty which makes the show here, making a false Irish priest who accidentally takes a confession for a fiancée and then tries to do everything to win her, despite the fact she wants to remain with her future husband.

Rachael Leigh Cook makes a good job here, however, I would rather recommend showing her talent on mainstream movies (ex: Into the West, Las Vegas and soon to be released "Nancy Drew") and video game voices rather than direct to video clubs movies that people would see only to spend an afternoon home.

For the rest, a movie worth to watch for if you like romantic comedies.

However, Montreal is not mentioned in this movie, but just seeing some french Canadian signs, we might imagine the action is passing there.

Anyway, worth a look, especially for this fake Priest

The fact that this movie stayed on the shelf for over 2 years should be a good indication as to how awful it is.

Good looking sex-starved Vanessa, who is not a catholic, walks into a catholic church to confess that even if she's getting married in 3 days, she hasn't slept with her fiancé and she wants to sleep with every guy she sees.

Well, believe it or not, the man listening to her confession is the church's handyman, Nick.

Of course, Nick wants to take advantage of the situation, so he impersonates a priest and tries to get in bed with Vanessa.

Shades of "Three's Company" as far as credibility goes...

The improbable premise prevents you from believing everything that happens from that point. If you watch this, you'll suffer through 90 minutes of attempted humor delivered by bad actors in a movie shot in a bleak autumn-feeling Montreal that has rarely looked this bad.

Michel Cusson's music is up to the crummy standard he has reached since taking his clichéd TV work to the DTV world: Johann Pachelbel must be turning in his grave ! Another score written while sleepwalking and dreaming of that small check he's gonna cash, laughing all the way to the bank (and leaving any self-esteem behind...). A truly annoying score.

Rachael Lee Cook is still a looker, but her bad acting makes her unsympathetic character look truly retarded. Too bad she doesn't have the skill to match that cute face...

In the end **spoiler** the guy gets the girl he deserves and you get to hate yourself from having wasted your time, yet again, on a clunker filled with unknowns and a cute young actress who'll never rise above this crap.

From the start this movie was simply unbelievably awful. Do not use it as a "date movie" - it'll completely sour any amorous intentions. I recorded it to watch it and within twenty minutes was fast forwarding through a lot of it, pausing for only three or four scenes - the character "Nick" was intolerable. T He generates hatred from the start. Dialogue apparently intended to be funny generates a high level of irritation with him instead. The English accent heightens that irritation. As the irritation continues to worsen, you begin to wonder why no one has hit him or thrown him out. The scenes of his invading the "space" of the bride and groom are unbelievable as well. Invading the bride's dressing room without consequence ? Invading the honeymoon without consequence or resistance? After all that, the bride decides she's in love with him ? The jilted groom walks outside and leaves with "Nick's" sister ? Unbelievable. This movie isn't even good enough for straight to video - I'd bet it's gathering dust on the walls of any video store that may be cursed with ownership of it.

I heard quite bad things about this film but I have a weakness for romance so had to watch this. Problem was its never been released in Enland so I had it imported from the states. So glad I did! This film exceeded all my expectations! It was adorably romantic and made me laugh out loud numerous times. The film started off with light humour and as the film progressed I found myself so engaged with Nick and routing for him to succeed - something that became furiously more intensified after every failed attempt to prevent the wedding from taking place. I will never forget the charades scene or the demonic possession! Some of the funniest pieces of film I've ever seen. I'll also never forget the amount of heart Nick has and just what he would do in order to satisfy it. My heart bled as he waited all day and night outside her front door and how he would do anything to get into the church (even if it meant scaling the building). I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and would recommend it to all those who love romance as well as hilarity. Good fun

I watched this film for Rachel Leigh Cook, she is beautiful. I get lost in her eyes. But even the stunning beauty of Rachel Leigh Cook could not distract me enough from the this train wreck of a film. Besides the fact the film lacks any real humor, the root of why its so bad is because the main character Nick (Kenny Doughty) does not deserve to be with Vanessa (Rachel Leigh Cook), for many reasons. There is not one redeemable factor about this guy, and by the end of the film he just looks desperate and pathetic. In the real world Vanessa would have gotten a restraining order against Nick and got married to the good guy. And I stress "good guy" because the man she was suppose to marry is as altruistic as they come. The whole movie we're shown how great Vanessa's soon to be husband is and how much she loves him, and then she leaves him for some guy that pretends to be a priest just so he can hook up with her? Wrong on so many levels. How am I suppose to root for a guy who's selfish, boring, manipulative and morally corrupt? And to top it all off we're not even given a clear explanation why they love each other, mostly I just saw a sIut who couldn't control her sexual urges, and a selfish douche-bag. Come to think of it, maybe they do deserve each other. Avoid this garbage at all costs.

It is deep night as i write this but the movie kept me up. The lead role guy is hilarious. And Leigh Cook, oh my god, she's so beautiful.

The plot is not something too original (as you could say from the first comments page) but there are many little scenes that have their own charm.

I'm no big specialist in actor play but I was really inspired by the play of the lead role guy. It really touched me to heart as he was making everything possible (lots of crazy things anybody would normally do) to be with the girl. Isn't it about life -- if you REALLY want something you will do crazy things to get it.

Watch it with your girl/boyfriend if you want a nice romantic movie -- I'm pretty sure you'll like it.

I watched this movie the other night simply out of boredom and it happened to be on netflix instant watch. I love Rachael Leigh Cook and the lead guy was hilarious as well. Although the premise of the film seems strange, it was filled with fun jokes and dialog, although a little cheesy at times.

The end of the movie is very predictable, which is common among all romantic comedies today. You can tell from the beginning that Cook is going to end up with the male lead instead of the very uninteresting fiancé she has in the start of the movie, but the scenarios the film goes through keep the movie very upbeat and fun.

Enjoy!

Vanessa (Rachael Leigh Cook) is a beautiful young lady on the verge of marriage. With the ceremony only three days away, Vanessa is having some problems, however. Her rich, good-looking fiancé, Andre (Paul Hopkins), after sowing some wild oats in his twenties, decreed that the couple would not sleep together until after the ceremony, and Vanessa's hormones are raging. She ogles every handsome man she meets on the street and has wild daydreams about going to bed with strangers. That's why she stops at St. Andrews Catholic church and heads for the confessional, so that she can enlist the help of a priest in learning how to handle her impulses. But, what fun, a carpenter, Nick (Kevin Doughty) is inside the "box" making repairs when she comes to confess and she spills the beans to him, instead. Playing along as a young man of the cloth, Nick is struck by Vanessa's beauty and wit. That is why he agrees to meet with her later that evening, for coffee, to discuss the situation in more detail. Naturally, Nick falls for Vanessa and tries to break up the wedding plans. Can he succeed? This film starts off wonderfully, with humor and direction but soon loses sizzle. There are some fun scenes, such as the one where Nick is counseling Vanessa and her bridesmaids during a "girl talk" meeting or another where Nick decides to "mime" a message so that he won't violate confidentiality rules by speaking out of line. LOL. But, the plot wears thin after awhile and becomes pedestrian. Even so, Cook is lovely (as always) and funny, Doughty a stitch, and Hopkins one great "piece" of eye-candy. The costuming is especially wonderful, as are the sets, including Vanessa's knockout apartment and Andre's posh mansion. All in all, if you are a romcom fan, you will chuckle over this one, mostly, and adore the players. But, your overall satisfaction will just make it to the "fair" level by film's end.
