This documentary was made with the assistance of Jan Teakle and Peter Teakle of Akuna Station in South Australia.

This documentary commemorates the Australian 2001 Centenary Of Federation Source to Sea commemoration.

The Centenary Of Federation's Source To Sea event took more than three years to plan.

According to the DVD jacket, the Australian 2001 Centenary Of Federation Source to Sea commemoration featured a record number of boats sailing on the River Murray where "never before has such a flotilla been assembled on the Murray River".

This documentary film's closing credits dedication reads: "In Memory of Joy Buckley".

The DVD sleeve notes declare that this film includes "private family archival footage and historic photographs of the river trade" of the Murray River.

This documentary film was made and first released in the 10th Anniversary year of the South Australian made-for-television River Murray river boat mini-series The River Kings (1991) which is discussed in this doc featuring footage from the TV show.

Writer-producer-narrator Ian Doyle has said of this documentary: "Compared to the stories of drovers, shearers and squatters, very little is known about the important role these boats played in the history of Australia. Things would have been much different had Lawson [Henry Lawson] and Patterson [A.B. 'Banjo' Paterson] written about the Murray and her riverboats as Mark Twain did about the Mississippi. It would have placed the Murray more in the centre of Australians consciousness. This documentary tells their story".

Proceeds from the sale and distribution of this documentary have in part supported the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia.

More than two hundred leisure and heritage water craft including paddle-steamers, steam-boats, river-boats, small boats, paddle-wheelers, motor-boats, tinnies, steamers, paddle-boats, and many other kinds of boats, all taking part in the flotilla of water craft participating in the Australian 2001 Centenary Of Federation Source to Sea commemoration.
