Rebgong is famous for Tibetan thangka art. Since 2009, when Rebgong art was inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Humanity List, the number of visitors in the area, the mobility of the painters, the material conditions, and the scale of the thangka market have been rapidly increasing. The film describes the building of a private thangka art school in Rebgong. Choejor, the director of the school, has been making efforts to preserve the cultural tradition by spending almost all his savings (from selling his own paintings) to the building of the school. On the other hand, he is experimenting revolutionary ideas, i.e. accepting female students and Han-ethnic students who were prohibited to learn thangka in tradition, and has been exploring ways to make the transmission of thangka art culturally and economically sustainable. It takes months and years to paint a thangka. It also takes time to paint the future of one's culture.
