I was enjoying this family film - then it ended - it wasn't Oscar winning performances granted, but ok to watch with the kids, thought the aliens were quite good, I've seen worse, but, it just ended. I'm getting really fed up with a lot of films not finishing properly.

Was getting into the film with my son, then it just ends????? I was left confused as to whether it was actually a film or a tv series? What a shame

Then it ended, resolved nothing and seemed more like a television series (this being the first episode) than a movie.

If this wasn't time wasted I don't know what is.

Nowhere does it indicate there will be a part 2 or a "to be continued".

How can anyone be satisfied with this as a film?

I'm a big fan or Renee O'Connor, the producer of this film, so I really tried to like it. For my two cents, her are my pros and cons:

Pros The lead, Miles Muir, did a very decent job. The cinematography was good at times. Some of the location work was beautiful. Renee O'Connor was very good as the step-mother, but there just wasn't enough of it. Most of the cast was pretty good. Jed Sura seemed natural in his part. The daughter, Emily's, acting was well done and her bits were funny and well-timed.

Cons: The dialogue, particularly for the lead actor, was awkward; particularly with all the technical monologues. The older brother, sorry I can't recall his name, was not very good except on occasion. Editing wasn't very good. The scenes were too long and in some spots, the story didn't hold together. The ending was so unclear that I don't know what to think. Really didn't like the ending.

Conclusion: Somewhat amateurish which is a shame because several of the cast and crew are highly experienced and accomplished professionals. I would lay most of the issues at the feet of the writer and director.

After having watched this movie, here is my review of it.

What I liked:

I enjoy fiction (or movies) that have humor interspersed with the drama. You can't have a dark show without having some humor because it gives respite to the viewer (or reader). One of the funniest scenes/lines in this movie comes from an older couple who seem to have been together since the year dot. The old woman says in response to her husband questioning why she went to church: "I was praying for your soul...and the good lord to take it!" What happens after this is a mega spoiler, so I'm going to jump over talking about this couple.

I THOROUGHLY enjoyed the nerdy Shawn played by Miles Muir. I'll be honest and say I wasn't expecting this performance. Miles made you care about his character. He was a nerdy kid who appeared to be a loner (not by choice). His life's ambition was about to become a reality and Miles made me want Shawn to succeed because it was central to why he was motivated to do what he did. There were so many layers to this young man. As far as acting is concerned, if the actor can make me fall in love or hate with his or her character, they have done their job. The whole purpose of telling a story is that it must resonate with you the viewer; there has to be something in the movie you see that touches you.

Watch The Sky does that, and I think the reason for this is Miles. His portrayal of Shawn was just spectacular at such a young age. Surprised at his acting ability and the ease in which he sold me on Shawn's journey. I can't wait to see what he does in the future because if he chooses to continue in the acting biz, this young man is going to impress.

What I didn't Like: It starts off very slow; it laid the foundation of the story, but it took a long time to get there. This isn't a movie that finishes telling its story by the end. Had I known that, I would have savored the build up. It may lose some viewers before it gets to the heart of the story because of the pace.

Conclusion: Should you watch this movie? ABSOLUTELY. I am going to predict that Miles Muir is going to have a lot of new fans because he is a talented young actor that, if given the right material, he will be someone to watch.

It has great characters that make you want to know more about them. For me, it all boils down to that. I want great characters in a movie or a book or theatre because that's what makes the show. You can slice and dice it with explosions and car chases, but at the end of the day, it's the characters that matter. On that score, it succeeded.

The pacing of the story needed to be quicker because I noticed it only started to rev up to about halfway through the movie. It has it's pacing flaws, but overall if you stick with it, you will find that there is a lot to like about Watch The Sky.

WATCH THE SKY is the story of Shawn Neary, a young boy who misses his mom, feels isolated in life and spends most of his time "watching the sky". There's a key point in the movie when he flashes back to his sister's birthday party (BTW, the young actress - Iris Sura O'Connor - who plays the sister makes the most of the few scenes she's in - very funny) where he has a choice to get out of the chair he's sitting in and talk to the cute girl he's looking at or continue to sit in the chair and watch the balloon he releases rise into the sky. He chooses poorly (Seriously, here's a tip for teenage boys. If you EVER face the same choice, good Lord go to talk to the cute girl). This leads him to pursue his interest in space which leads to the whole plot of this movie.

The adult actors, some familiar (Renee O'Connor), some new to me (pretty much everyone else), deliver solid performances - J. Nicole Brooks , Luke Albright, Karson Kern and Jed Sura especially stood out. But this really is Miles Muir's movie. He is a natural talent. His scenes with his Karson Kern are at times funny, at times touching and at times a little scary. It was a risk to give so much of this movie to such a young and unknown actor, but it turned out it was a risk that was worth taking.

The ending of WATCH THE SKY probably brings the strongest reaction from viewers. Here's the thing, if you want a science fiction film that wraps up nicely in the third act by having the hero blow up the Death Star, or having the heroine crush the villain in a hydraulic press, or having the family go to the park and fly kites together while singing, "Let's Go Fly a Kite" (sorry, wrong genre), then the ending will frustrate and disappoint you. However, if you want a film that at the end makes you speculate what happens next, and generates discussion amongst your family about what did happen, then you'll like this ending.

In summary, WATCH THE SKY is an enjoyable science fiction movie the family can watch together. Set aside the science fiction setting, there are common themes families often experience - a teenager's isolation, the loss of parent, your cows being mutilated (yeah, maybe not that last one). We enjoyed watching WATCH THE SKY.

Great film that the entire family can watch together. Well written with a wonderful music score. Gutsy ending. Make me want to leave the city so I can look up and watch the sky

I would have been better to actually sit outside and watch the sky for the hour and a half I wasted on this movie! It was so slow with really useless detail that, for a minute, I thought it must be a pilot for a series! Basically it goes nowhere.

IF it was a pilot for a series, maybe, but the acting was below par, too much irrelevant details about each character and by the time they got to the point of the story, it ends without knowing what is going on.

This movie was what you'd expect, entertaining but a bit cheesy. Still, worth watching if you like SciFi. UNTIL THE END! What the heck was that? It just ended! Not a single plot line wrapped up. It is like the just ran out of money a half hour before the end and shipped it anyway. Ridiculous. You owe me money for the hour and a half of my life you just stole.

This movie is a junior high school quality nothing burger. Of course, some reviews thought is was a series pilot since it suddenly just 'stops' as if aliens put their large hands over the projection lens. At least most horrible films make an attempt to offer ending closure. This film. at what should have been the two thirds mark, goes into cinematic cardiac arrest. Best guess, the money ran out from the junior high school parents who obviously funded the after school project.

Nice, I followed the movie nicely from start to finish. I really liked the main story that tells ... beyond that of the aliens.. A boy who feels a lot of his mother's absence ... who unfortunately lost ... I liked the music, I understood and I also liked the ending .. (use your imagination ..) Good job, everyone! I'm glad I bought it and saw it, to be happily reviewed.

Congratulations to Miles Muir really good! ???????????? Great actor! this is your way!

I found the Editing wasn't very good. The scenes were a bit too long and in some places, I think it would have been a bit better if there was a little more character development.

The Movie started of really slow and a bit boring and ones I started to get into and it was getting more intense and interesting it then randomly ends. Which I didn't like. I wanted to know what happens next. Like by the time it got to the point of the story, it ends without knowing what is going on. It just left me wanting more. I find It ignoring when a lot of Movies don't finish properly. When it finished I got the feeling that it was a TV show and not a Movie and it turns out that it is a Movie. By the way If it was a TV show I would of watched the 2nd episode.

The Movie talks about lost of a family member. The things I really liked were the special effects, and I liked the mystery part of the Movie. I think it was interesting. The acting was good and I think The music went well with all the scenes, I really liked the lighting and scenery. They were my favourite parts of the Movie.
