Pretentious.

You can tell right out of the gate they're not going to make it. All the actors we recognize are staying on the ground. Then, when they don't in fact make it, everything that happens is SO real, and so slow, it's like we're really there in real time for all the boring parts. Except this reality also has music. And even that is slow, dull and pretentious.

This show says it is about them going to mars yet its the end of season one and there is no one on Mars and it sounded great like a good scifi but real premise instead we get a drama about people and politics and bulls $#t. This show sucks dont promise a great idea like people going to mars and make how about peoples home problems and all thoer BS. Going to Mars for the first time is a great dhow idea now how about we go to mars and forget the stupod nonsense in this show

They had this fitted, it's exacly why orions are safer than shuttles... Rocket exploder, escape system fires, crew lands safely, although shaken.

Sir Arthur C. Clarke was asked when the Space Elevator would become a reality. He answered, "Probably about 50 years after everybody quits laughing."

At the Space Elevator 2nd International Conference held in Santa Fe in 2003, he had become more optimistic, updating his estimate to "10 years after everybody stops laughing ... and I think they have stopped laughing." - Sir Arthur C. Clarke Author, Mathematician, Inventor, Undersea Explorer, Science Writer, Science Fiction Writer (2001 A Space Odyssey, and many sequels, with the direct assistance of NASA Scientists)

Otherwise, not much to this long-hyped premiere. Yes, we met a few key characters and they've been set up as American heroes, yet flawed, if not fragile. My biggest challenge was with the predictability. Considering this episode's events, what's next seems clear.
