Ten Billion is a film about us. It's a film about you, your children, your parents, your friends. It's about every one of us. It's about our failure: failure as individuals, the failure of business, and the failure of our politicians. It is about an unprecedented planetary emergency. It's about the future of us.

Hi all, I saw this documentary at a screening in London followed by a panel discussion w/ Stephen Emmott, the narrator/host of the documentary.

Climate change is an important topic, and I am a huge fan of documentaries that tackle controversial topics in an objective fashion with open discourse.

This film, however, focused almost entirely on one side, that is - that humans are changing the Earths climate and that we are doomed...and there is nothing we can do about it. Not only do I heavily disagree with such a one-sided approach, but many of the statistics used in the film are skewed if not completely ludicrous. On top of that, Stephen is highly selective on showing elements that support his position, but completely omits viable alternatives/and or actual solutions that are currently being implemented or on the horizon.

I vehemently dislike biased and manipulative documentaries, and while I have seen far worse than this one - it goes without saying that this film does 'not' do the important debate around Climate Change any justice.

Watch it if you enjoy nitpicking holes out of a narrative :).

The Chief Scientist of Microsoft and his team spent years on this research. Republican Oil Men will try to claim that it's baloney. It's not.

The simple fact is, like China, the current 7.5 Billion of us (Feb 2017) all want the middle- class lifestyle or better. Earth simply does not have enough agricultural land to do this, and we are poisoning and mining the seas at breakneck speed.

Global warming will produce a net loss in arable land, especially in poor countries.

Every single hamburger takes over 600 gallons of water to produce.

Greed is driving the few of us into Ever More false wealth. GREED is a contagious MENTAL ILLNESS. It's why people with a million times as much money as the poor still feel they don't have enough.

Even with totally free energy, and miracle "test tube" food, we simply cannot sustain 9 billion people by 2025. The systems will start to crash, and the rich (think) they will have super- walled communities and private armies to ride out the crash. But this is an illusion.

No man is an island. In a hundred years, all of your descendants will be dead.

But there's a happy ending! ... Once man is mostly gone, nature will heal the planet, and in a few thousand years, it will be mostly healthy again, just missing most of the higher life forms.

Overall the Microsoft host seems to talk about his hopelessness of the population enacting a major behavioural change. Similarly that the world is already too far gone with either population demand or everyone wants of additional "stuff". His emotion of hopelessness makes me wonder why he's even trying. You don't make a documentary purely for fun... As he stated, he devoted much of his life to study the future of planet earth. He is clearly trying to change behaviour and the minds of his followers and its important that point is made. Why? Because it's more clear to see that his hopelessness is a emotional strategy to enact change NOW in his listeners. How can this be proven? Well why would you care to enact change if the potential chaotic future was unavoidable.

So this guy goes on to state 3 main talking points to combat change: 1. Radical political government change. 2. Technology 3. Behaviour change

Its clear to see he eliminates point 2 as a solution. Even though he works for a tech company that has literally accomplished unthinkable advances in technology. It also turns out his so called employer might just be worth a few dollars and literally in one the of best positions to fund, innovate, and advance these so called umbrellas in space, or salt water purifying tech etc. He writes it off however. He spends a pathetically short amount of time on this subject. He wrote it off so quickly, It's like there's a reason why... I have speculation but I'll keep that to myself.

Have I mentioned this guy seems hopeless... Its ironic and actually funny... For a guy who wants to save the world... You would think the first requirements to be leading the charge would be someone whos motivated, hopeful, positive.

So he wants drastic government control/regulation of the population... Everything from population control, to essentially a complete overhaul of our cultures, diets, recreation... It doesn't stop. Take for instance: drastically or completely eliminating particular water hungry crops, beef, chicken, etc. Do you actually think people will want to stop eating chicken wings, burgers, hotdogs, and can you literally imagine a world workout everything that comes from meat?? What about the people who have medical/mental conditions who swear by a meat and greens diet?? These diets are healthy and doctor recommended and you guys want to completely change the way people eat and the way corporations make money and employ millions... So where I am going with this?? ... Everyone is a hypocrite and if you're not then you're not enjoying life. Do you have an air conditioner? If so is it needed medically... Do you bathe in oceans/lakes or at least take only 2-3 minute showers without ever having a wasteful bath? Do you have an animal free diet? I'll allow byproducts so cheese, eggs, milk etc. Do you have pets? unless medically necessary you are just helping create a culture and problem of unnecessary mouths to feed, dogfood is made from beef/poultry etc. Do you flush minimally or go outside in the bush when possible? Have you looked into adoption instead of having your own??

I could go on... Its time people practice what they preach. People don't realize what it would take and want to virtue signal about everything they are "doing"... And usually they don't brag about the above points... More importantly its time those same people realize normal people won't change. Humans are not stubborn, we have grown accustomed to a particular standard of living... (Al Gore apparently uses 20x the power compared to regular citizens) and we naturally will never go back to living in the 1920s (and neither will leftists).
