Episode 23 "The Tong" was the first to deal with tongs, this was the second. Returning as a different character is veteran character actor Richard Loo, now as elderly tong leader Wu Chang, who plans to accompany his pregnant daughter to China to begin a new life away from the murderous tong. Their destination is Ho Pei, the land of their ancestors, revealed to be the same family as Kwai Chang's mother. James Hong appears as Men Han, lieutenant of Wu Chang, who reveals the plot to Lo Sing (Clyde Kusatsu), new leader of the tong, who demand the death of Wu Chang for his betrayal. Caine confronts the tribunal, noticing they had already called forth the Dark Rider (Nathan Jung), their official black-clad executioner, before pronouncing sentence. Caine determines to aid Wu Chang to deceive the tong by giving them what they want, through a drug that induces a cataleptic state resembling death. The final showdown against the Dark Rider provides a sterling climax to another superb entry. Appearing as the murdered sheriff is Edward Walsh, best known for playing Brudah, hideous human manservant of Robert Quarry's Count Yorga in 1970's "Count Yorga Vampire" and 1971's "The Return of Count Yorga."
