Thiago Alves was originally supposed to fight Josh Neer, but when Alves had to back out of the fight Nick Diaz replaced him.

David Terrell was originally supposed to fight Yushin Okami, but when Imes got injured Alan Belcher ended up replacing him in the bout.

A lightweight title fight between Sean Sherk and Kenny Florian was planned to take place at the event; however, Florian confirmed that he had turned down the offer - wishing, instead, to accept the fight on a later date. That fight occurred on UFC 64 instead.

Although Renato Sobral only pocketed a purse of $21,000 according to disclosed figures released to the NSAC, he was given a bonus check from the Fertittas, owners of UFC, in the ambulance that later took him to the hospital that night, according to CNNMoney.com. Although it's not known how much that check was for, Sobral appeared quite appreciative and was told by the Fertittas that they "were going to see [him] again."

The main event title fight between Chuck Liddell and Renato Sobral was given heightened importance, as a potential super fight set in November between Liddell and PRIDE Middleweight Champion Wanderlei Silva hinged on a Liddell victory at UFC 62. That super fight however did not materialize as negotiations between the UFC and PRIDE broke down.
