Mr. Pecksniff Fetches the Doctor (1904) Online

A man is woken in the middle of the night. He dresses hastily and badly and rushes to the doctor's surgery, then returns home to pace the floor. The result is unexpected.

This short film in four camera set-ups is a well-composed effort with a good joke at the end. It shows Robert Paul's middle-class values, and presumably the audience he felt were his market. He did, after all, sell his movies through a catalogue, and even though cinema theaters were popular and those audiences tended to be lower class, the actions of his protagonist of those of that rank in life; he has a maid (or possibly a nurse hired to deal with his wife's pregnancy) and he fetches the doctor.
