Dick feels it's time for the Solomons to actually meet the neighbors because he thinks they'll learn much more about humans that way instead of just observing them. This will also allow for bad cook Sally to get some cooking lessons from the neighbor. Meanwhile, Harry constantly watches TV.

When sitting on the roof Dick wears a robe. Towards the end you can see stitched initials "JL" on it. Dr. Dick Solomon is played by the actor John Lithgow.

There are two, possibly three references to NBC shows. Harry mentions Katie Couric ("The Today Show"), and the main cast sings a line to the them from "Friends". Dick reads "Jerry dates a blind girl" in a TV guide that could be an episode of Seinfeld. The episode closes with the theme to Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood from PBS.

"There are some things in life money can't buy. For everything else, there's this mission statement." This is a parody of Mastercard's TV ad campaign that ends, "For everything else, there's Mastercard." Another mission statement was "to boldly go where no man has gone before," which is the mission statement for the Starship Enterprise in the TV show Star Trek (1966).
