The Filmmakers Co-operatives Catalogue of Independent Film says of this film: "At least half of the cast are stark, staring mad most of the time, but the film deals with the life of an ornithophiliac who became a Christian evangelist.".
This film has been described as a "surrealistic documentary".
Second of two shorts that director Peter Weir made whilst working as a stage-hand at TV station ATN Channel 7 in Sydney, Australia. The first was Count Vim's Last Exercise (1968).
Peter Weir has said of this film in Sue Mathews; '35 mm Dreams: Conversations with Five Directors about the Australian film revival': "The next film I did for the staff was Buck Shotte. I left someone else to do the revue in '68 and I made the film, which was much more elaborate in every way than Count Vim."
