I don't care and don't want to get into the idol anime genre one bit but this one idol anime named "Zombieland Saga" caught my attention real fast by it wacky premise and now after episode 3 it already earn a spot on my top 10 must watch of 2018 despite being an idol anime right from the get-go.What make it truly unique and funny is the idol group dub Franchuchou (ep2) already dead for a long time and just recently brought back to life in a mysterious way under a crazy but epic Koutarou Tatsumi.Watch it and you will find out how zombie girl bonding with each other can be so flipping hilarious and also long live THE LEGENDARY YAMADA TAE

This is an interesting anime with a unique premise and decent animation. The voice acting is pretty good, and overall I have no problems with it.

Like a season has come out so far. I was planning on editing this review as episodes came out but I'm not going to do that. This show is awesome. The characters are great. Everything is great. Watch it.

Written as of EP 4.

This is one of those anime you get shown by a friend or randomly find on a video site. Is it absurd, crazy and a bit WTF? Yes. Is it trying to be revolutionary, no, but it doesn't need too. This is like the FLCL of idol anime. Silly, hilarious, a riff on idol anime. What more do you want? It's Zombieland Saga for christ sake. You get what you expect and what you get is absurd gold.

Sakura Minamoto is a high school girl who dreams of becoming an idol... right up until she steps in front of a speeding truck. She wakes in a strange building and discovers that she is surrounded by zombies. She flees and asks a cop for help... he looks at her in terror; it turns out that she too is a zombie! She is then helped by Kotaro Tatsumi, a rather manic individual whose idea to save the city of Saga is to raise various girls from the dead to create an all zombie idol group! Sakura gets to know the other girls and they start to perform; all the time trying to hide the fact that they are zombies from the public... something not easy when their heads occasionally fall off.

This series is without a doubt one of the highlights of the season. The premise may be totally bonkers but it really works. Of course these aren't conventional zombies; only one of them, the hilarious Tae Yamada, doesn't regain her consciousness; and apart from Sakura they all remember their pasts. Their characters are nicely varied and the fact that they were raised from the dead means they can come from different time periods in some cases. Their designs are impressive; they only look like normal girls when made up to go out in public. The comedy elements really work with plenty of laugh out loud moments in every episode. Overall I'd definitely recommend this series even if you don't usually like idol shows or zombies.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

The hole in my life that is Konosuba Season 3 has been temporarily filled with an idol show... Well that was one of the many things I never thought I'd say in my entire life but here we are now. The whole thing may just be a filler arc or a character development arc but for those who actually pays closer attention than they should like I do, you will find the main plot. There's an absurd connection between Sakura and Kotarou and it is blatant from how he first greets her and how he continues to do so. There is entertainment value in this but there is so much more that I cannot even begin to describe.

Before watching Zombieland Saga, I had never watched an idol anime. It's not that I had anything against the concept of the "genre", I just didn't have an interest in watching any of the few shows I knew of.

But when I looked at the anime of this season, I saw Zombieland Saga. And I had seen a clip of the first scene of the internet, so I knew what kind of show it was. And I decided that I was going to watch it.

The basic plot of the anime is that Koutarou revives 7 girls, who he gives the mission to save SAGA. They're basically zombie idols. And something I found very interesting was how important it was for the plot that the girls were zombies. Cause a major theme of the show was how idols have to hide their personality and relationships to be successful as an idol. It is pretty disgusting, to be honest, and I appreciate how this is the first anime I have heard of that tackles the issue. Cause the zombie literally have to paint over their skin to not scare the public. The only difference is that it makes sense for them to do that since the public would logically try to kill them.

But yeah it would have been easy for the creators to make them zombies so that it sticks out of the crowd just a little. But they thought of it a little more and made something great.

Something I didn't say in my synopsis is the "era difference" of the girls. Yuugiri, one of the main characters, dies in 1880, while Sakura dies in 2008. And the time difference shows a lot. You can see the different styles that the girls sing in reflect "idols" of the time. Again, they could have gone with it easy and just make them look their age. But they took time to make it a little more interesting.

So yeah. If you want to see a show that tackles issues that idols have, or just talks about idols realistically. Then this is the show for you.

weak 9/10, 3rd favorite of the year ATM
