14-year-old Reem attempts to talk her friend of the same age out of her arranged marriage; however, once it is discovered what she tried to do, she and her mother Hamamah are thrown out of that friend's wedding. Unsure as to why Reem could feel the way she does, the two talk about what it means to be married at her age. Reem believes that she should be able to live as a child but her mother disagrees. This disagreement results in Reem running away on her own; however, Reem is 9 months pregnant and can give birth at any moment. When her water breaks, she stumbles upon a water refrigerator where a man notice her and decides to help her. Reem gives birth and passes away. Feeling distraught and responsible for her daughter's death, Hamamah vows to protect her new granddaughter and never allow for what happened to Reem to happen again.
