Father Brown The Prize of Colonel Gerard (2013– ) Online

Ex-colonel Gerard is poisoned after arguing with his nephew Edward. Edward is a former POW from Korea and the colonel claims he has been brain-washed but Edward sticks to his story that Gerard killed his father in order to marry his widow Ada. None of the household - including Ada's brother Rupert and his adopted daughter Jia-Li - seem upset at the colonel's death and each had a motive for murder. Then Father Brown is poisoned - hopefully he can recover in time to unmask the killer.

In The Prize Of Colonel Gerard [S2 E8], Katie Leung guest stars. She played Cho Chang in Harry Potter [Harrys first real 'crush']. Mark Williams had recurring role in The Harry Potter Movies as Arthur Weasley.

Katie Leung played one of Harry Potter's love interest.

It's a "reunion", of sorts, for the actors that portray FATHER BROWN (Mark Williams), and JIA-LI GERARD (Katie Leung): although both actors were in the HARRY POTTER movies, they never "interacted" on-screen... until now, that is...!

The opening Waltz is Masquerade by Aram Khatchaturian.

Colonel Cecil Gerard was an unlikable man. His stepson and nephew Edward disliked him for marrying his mother. Edward thinks he offed his father in order to do so.

Edward also had a traumatic experience in the Korean war where he was held captive. Gerard also has a Chinese adopted daughter but everybody in the household seems to have some motive for his murder.

When Edward is arrested, Father Brown investigates and believes tiger whiskers holds a clue.

A rather racy undercurrent to this episode, Gerard's brother has a thing with the busty maid, the bad tempered French chef is known to be a tiger in bed and even a smidgen of incest.

Of course once Father Brown works out the method of the murder, it is easy to guess the suspect.

Colonel Gerard throws a party for his nephew Edward, who's returned home having been a prisoner of war in Korea. The Colonel is now married to Edward's mum, and family matters are further complicated as Edward is in love with his adopted sister Jia_Li. The Colonel is poisoned in grizzly fashion, and Father Brown himself seems to have fallen foul to the mystery poisoner.

A solid mystery, a pretty decent plot, which makes me recall an episode of Tales of the Unexpected, Fat Chance, where the modus operandi is also used.

Some definite humour throughout, with Mr Digby causing a few laughs. Emma Fielding very good as always. Some lovely costumes used throughout.

A solid mystery 7/10

Could anyone tell me the name of the music played during the opening party scene ? There is no mention in the credits. Sounds like a waltz.

I really appreciate Diectors like Woody Allen who acknowledge all the music they use in their shows even if copywriters have expired and. They don't have to do it

I've tried the Shazam app to find the name of this music but no luck

I don 't get the ten line minimum requirement

I really enjoy Father Brown mysteries.

The opening credits remind me of the Mad Men opening mixed with the Perot opening graphics

This is the story of a man who is rich and mean.

He is murdered in his bed. He does not get along with his step son and others. Him and his wife also have a oriental adopted daughter.

Later when Father Brown goes to question one of the men he is in the closet with a maid feeling her breast. I found this very offensive that they would put a scene like this in a religious series. The man that was murdered also made sexual advances toward his adopted daughter.

Anyway religion is not good in these series. Lady Felicia is always sleeping with someone, and made comments to Father Brown.

Father Brown makes the Sign of the Cross is sloppy manner and when asked to pray he prays in Latin which no one understand and is rarely used.

So I did not like this episode at all.
