Tzu Chi in San Francisco entered Hunter's Point and decided to help educate the children of Malcolm X only 3 years ago. However, they never stopped there. Roxanne Buchwitz and other Tzu Chi Volunteers realized that the children faced many difficulties that could not be solved through the limited time they had together in school. Against all odds, the Volunteers decided to go into the heart of this dangerous neighborhood and do home visits. This was the beginning of Happy Family. They saw many unspeakable living conditions. Some of the kids have never slept on a bed in their whole life! This pushed the Volunteers to do furniture delivery and turn their house into a home. Now Tzu Chi Volunteers are able to help the children grow in school as well as with the Family. It's a Happy Campus and a Happy Family.
