Since 2001 until today the TV show has Simona Ventura as host with collaboration of Gene Gnocchi. Although the complete renewal, the TV show continues to have a great success thanks to Simona Ventura's conduction style, sport journalist who comments the hottest moments of the matches, imitations of politicians or famous people, guest-stars and musical guest-stars performer.
Every Sunday during Italian Soccer Championship, after "Quelli che... aspettano" (at 1:45 PM on RaiDue) begins "Quelli che... il calcio" (at 3:00 PM on RaiDue): it's a sport, comedy, talk and music TV show in wich Simona Ventura and the cast comments live the A serie matches.
Since soccer season 2005-2006, as result of A serie television rights from RAI to Mediaset, the goals of matches are acted by the "Maifredi Team" with Gigi Maifredi. So, journalists too comments fictious matches (but true results) from other stadiums.
In the last years, as result of A serie television rights from RAI to Mediaset, the goal of matches are still announced in order to defend the right of report and the right of TV-audience to celebrate.
Since 14th season (2006-2007), "Quelli che... il calcio" is renewed, maintaining the principal cast of last six years.
The TV show began in 1993 on RaiTre (RAI) with Fabio Fazio as host. Its name derives from the title of song "Quelli che..." written and sung from Enzo Jannacci.
In 1998 "Quelli che... il calcio" was moved on RaiDue (RAI) from RaiTre (RAI).
[August 29, 2008] After three years, RAI repurchases the 'serie A' television rights.
