In 1989, physicist Bob Lazar broke the story of Area 51 and the US government's work on alien spacecrafts. He blew the whistle, shocked the world, then went silent - until now.

Bob Lazar: Area 51 & Flying Saucers (2018) Online

Former government physicist Bob Lazar made headlines world-wide in 1989 when he came forward with his account of reverse-engineering an alien spacecraft for the US military. The reason the public even knows the name Area 51 is because Lazar came forward about the work he did at the formerly secret military base. His testimony remains the most controversial and important UFO story of all time. This film intimately chronicles the challenges and travails of a cosmic whistleblower. Burdened with a revolutionary secret, he had to choose between his oath to his country or his conscience. Corbell's film explores Lazar's groundbreaking claims and the devastating impact it has had on his life over the course of the last 30 years, including rare and never before revealed footage guaranteed to alter the landscape of the debate. He blew the whistle, shocked the world, then went silent - until now.

I've seen/heard every Lazar interview since 89 so clearly I was anticipating this greatly. First thing I have to address is why the producer seemed to make it about him? This is supposed to be about Bob Lazar. Major screw up right there.

Also, the core story wasn't even told (for those saying this is great for people that know nothing of the subject - it failed to educate the new generation who will now to be forced to youtube find old footage to get the whole story when it could have been done here, and then updated)

Sad to say that this is just another Lazar "documentary" which isn't even the best one. Bluebook films did one back in the early 2000's that is better and one of the UFO shows from the same era also did a better one than this - both are free on youtube.

Again this is everything you expect from a Jeremy Kenyon Lockyer Corbell production: Lots of archive archive footage and a few interviews that hype how awesome the subject is (in this case Bob Lazar) but have no new information whatsoever. What distinguishes this from a 15 minutes clip on Youtube is that this is augmented with lengthy introduction scenes, glitch vfx and "mysterious music" . I felt especially annoyed by the reenacted phone / sms scenes that just went on too long and you could tell it is an attempt to stretch this to feature film length. To me around 80% felt as "filler". Only thing worthwhile are the recent interviews with Bob Lazar even tho they just repeat what he already talked about before.

For about three decades nobody has tripped Bob Lazar up. He's been through the ringer. When I watched this documentary, I felt he was being truthful. The important part about this film is not the production quality or the special effects, or background music, it's whether you believe Bob Lazar or not. I do.

Really interesting topic, but sadly the documentary maker doesn't have the first idea on how to make a good documentary, he seems more interested in appearing on screen himself, than asking relevant questions, following interesting avenues, or even just letting the story tell itself. There is almost nothing here that people who know the Bob Lazar story won't already be familiar with, but for anybody new to the subject, it is an OK (if rather one-sided) introduction.

Let's see...

Gravelly voiced narrator... check Long periods of filler and repetition that tell us nothing... check Retreading well traveled ground we've heard many times before... check A lack of truly new or compelling information... check Amateur editing with electro-synth music... check Lots of filler renders of aliens and spaceships... check

Disappointing. So disappointed.

But hey, at least they got Mickey Rourke for the narrator to lend some high profile credibility to this movie!

This Jeremy guy is a fraud. All his documentaries are about him.. Bob Lazar is amazing, his story is great and compelling.... This director just wrecks the whole thing. It's totally worthless, he asks the same 5 questions over and over whilst using a load of old footage intercut with him stroking his dirty beard. Someone needs to wake this Jeremy guy up and tell him that documentary film making is about investigating facts rather than just smoking a spliff and making a movie on your iPhone to pay for more tattoos... Bad, bad, bad documentary.

Some parts of the documentary were cheesy. Was there really a need for the filmmaker to express his ignorance by trying to show depth in prognosticating about the nature of reality? And production value was low as we are made to watch the director and the producer have extended telephone conversations about Bob Lazar.

That said, this documentary does feature current interviews with Bob Lazar and allows you the viewer to come to your own conclusions about the man. And the whole point of making this film was to allow viewers to judge for themselves what kind of person Bob Lazar is. He does not come across as one of those self promoting UFO types who will soak up every last drop of attention the rest of the world offers them. Instead, Lazar is presented as someone who might be your nerdy uncle - a little eccentric perhaps but otherwise like everyone else.

There were no hard questions asked in this film. For instance, Lazar says he attended MIT and Cal Tech but cannot name a single person whom he went to class with or who taught him nor has anyone stepped forward to say they remember him from his time there. The filmmakers did proffer some support by saying that they interviewed people who say that they dropped off Lazar at these institutions and makes the point that if these people were telling the truth, then either Lazar went to MIT and Cal Tech or was making one hell of a show of it. Lazar also stuck to his story in the face of a criminal conviction even though both MIT and Cal Tech have gone on record stating that Lazar never attended.

While it is possible that Lazar was ghosted in order to discredit him, it is still very odd that no one who attended MIT or Cal Tech can corroborate his claim. The point was gently raised but Lazar was never challenged and was instead allowed to brush aside the issue by asserting that the importance of what he had to reveal about Area 51 has nothing to do with his academic credentials. Lazar must have had his conditions before agreeing to the interview, not answering questions that might have been uncomfortable could have been one.

Is Robert Lazar telling the truth about aliens in S4 of Area 51? While he does not seem to be a conman, at least not one who has made a nice bundle from peddling his story, not everything he says is logically consistent. For instance, he tells us that the state of physics today does not understand how gravity is generated, which is true; and yet later in the film he goes on to speculate how the alien technology he purportedly studied uses a gravitational field to create propulsion. Does Bob Lazar know something about gravity that the best minds do not?

If you are looking for more tidbits about what Bob Lazar had to say about Area 51 then there is nothing new here. In fact, the same old footage from 1989 is used to tell viewers what he had to say. What is new is that this is a current interview of Bob Lazar and it is the closest most of us will ever get to knowing the man.

The film didnt give anything for me, nothing new came up that we didnt already know, just an easy way to try to make fast money I feel. I guess its ok for people who never heard Bobs story before, but there are better documentaries out there who brings his story to light.

The film was also pretty bad produced, with editing in all the aliens everywhere. Removes the quality and seriousness of this topic.

First, this is a must watch for anyone who isn't aware of Bob Lazar or the story of Area 51. There's important information exposed that will leave you with questions, and maybe some answers.

However, the style of the documentary is a big letdown and distracts from the content and overall quality. Too many poorly done effects and phone calls that appear (although probably are not) staged. The documentary has a cheap, cheesy and almost sales-pitch like feel to it at times, which makes the story seem less genuine.

I'd still suggest watching this, but overall it suffers from trying too hard in the wrong areas.

Greetings again from the darkness. "This story is extraordinary - especially if it's true." This is just one of many incredulous statements from the film's narrator, Mickey Rourke. And let's face it, when trying to establish credibility for a story that's been in doubt for 30 years, who better to lean on than Mickey Rourke? In defense of filmmaker Jeremy Corbell, there is no proving or disproving the story of Bob Lazar. It's more like a Ripley's Believe it or Not entry than a forensic study with conclusive results. One either chooses to believe Mr. Lazar, or not ... and there is no way to prove which side is "right".

In 1989, Bob Lazar was interviewed anonymously (in shadows with altered voice), claiming that he worked at S-4, a facility adjacent to Area 51, and that his job was to reverse engineer the propulsion system on alien spacecraft - one of 9 being studied. His anonymity didn't last long, and the one fact in the film that is beyond debate is that his decision to go public with this story altered his life forever. When Mr. Corbell catches up with Mr. Lazar, we find that he doesn't come across as a crackpot, and we certainly believe that he believes his story. It's impressive that he's gone to great lengths over the years to prove his honesty - hypnosis and polygraphs included.

With input from investigative reporter George Knapp, we learn of FBI raids and numerous attempts at character assassination. There seem to be no records confirming Lazar's employment or education (Cal Tech, MIT) claims, though we do have photos of one of the raids. And we learn from his mother than he was always conducting experiments, even as a kid. Another gem from narrator Rourke, "Can we be made whole if we aren't believed?" might have made for a better focus as a (shorter) documentary. Since his story can't be proven, perhaps a more personal study of the man could be insightful.

We bounce between Nevada, California and Michigan, and director Corbell seems to buy into "The X-Files" claim that 'the truth is out there'. His choices of the electronic warbles as a score and the ridiculous script for Mr. Rourke to narrate notwithstanding, we do find Corbell and Lazar to be forthright in the presentation, even if their story is never able to "weaponize our curiosity" as initially promised. Proclaiming "reality isn't what it used to be" doesn't make it so. One must prove something so, for the doubt to be removed.

The "director" of this documentation has no clue how to make a movie. It's just random cuts ob Bob Lazar and other people and somehow slightly relevant pieces of film. No storyline no nothing.

That documentation is a complete waste of time. I really like the Bob Lazar story and was looking forward to this movie. But that was just pointlessly mixing random video snippets. I stopped this nonsens after a while. What a shame.

I'll keep it short with no spoilers.

Narrator voice adds nothing to the documentary.

Little snippets of film that are there to add more drama or something are too fast and add nothing, they annoy more than add something extra.

Background music at the interviews is a bit annoying.

The documentary almost entirely consists out of bad shots, bad lightning at a few of the interviews, bad composition or just not interesting shots at all to watch.

The documentary is not exciting in any way and does not make the story of the person in question more or less believable.

The, I believe, maker of the documentary asks boring/not so relevant questions.

In a nutshell: Boring, bad shots and emptiness.

Recommendation: No.

First off it's beyond boring... Shaky cameras, terrible audio, non-stop redundant information... Then you add Mickey Rourke as the garbled, almost unintelligible background voice trying WAY too hard at narration.... Turn down the casio keyboard sound effects... Super dumb! The guy talks and talks and TALKS of anti matter, operating alien vessels and alien bodies from an alien civilization yet NOT ONCE offers any substance as to where and when these items were obtained, not ONCE does he offer a reason WHY this apparent technology is being withheld from the rest of the world... Boring! Dont waste your time...

Too bad Jeremy Kenyon Lockyer Corbell (sorry JKLC) was the one charged with taking such an interesting topic and turning it into a well produced and shot 97 min documentary. So much potential with this story and it's just flat, slow, and boring. It looks pretty for sure, but people don't want to stare at a painting for 97 minutes to learn about Bob Lazar and S4 and UFO's and conspiracies and aliens and government cover ups and secret underground bases.

Honestly you can jump on YouTube and find about 15 videos that are much shorter and much more exciting to watch, not to mention much more informative.

Sorry Corbell, you paint a pretty picture but your docs lack substance.

PS - Mickey Rourke should start an ASMR channel.

I agree with some of the user criticisms of this film but I think these 1/10 scores are ridiculous. What did you expect? For Bob Lazar to pull a chunk of Element 115 out of his arse?

You have to go into this movie without expectations, which unfortunately are rife in the UFO community desperate for a smoking gun. It's simply a look at Lazar (a man who was harassed, bullied and discredited for speaking his truth) 30 years on to see who he is now, what he's up to and how he feels about coming forward in hindsight.

On that level it succeeds and shows a clearly honest man whose life was irrevocably changed for doing what he thought was for the good of humanity.

Maybe there is a little too much style over substance, but ultimately it's great to see Lazar in an intimate setting with close family offering their support and character testimony, and the ensuing raid by every government agency ever (a reaction to his taking part in this documentary), pretty much vindicates the guy.

It's no smoking gun but it's worth a watch.

I enjoyed actually listening to the man himself talk, but the rest of this "documentary" was filled with absolut garbage.

Irrelevant graphics and archive clips every two minutes, even in the middle of the sequences where lazar is being interviewed, looong scenes where the producer is just sitting on his ass talking to Knapp on the phone, over the top music not at all befitting the content, "deep" narration about the nature of reality with Rourkes voice that is longer than the actual interview clips, and on an on until I got a head ache.

It was obvious they just wanted to prolong the run time, and make it dramatic and appealing to morons (reflection of the filmmakers own intelligence?)

Why make me watch you sit there on your speaker phone, saying to Knapp you called nine scientists, instead of actually recording interviews with those scientists ???

If you want to be taken seriously, then make a professional documentary, Ask better questions, travel and find more relevant people instead of just speaking on the phone, don't edit like a five year old boy who likes cartoons, and get some proper lighting and sound equipment.

This was an overlong and fudged documentary which seemed more concerned with showing off its director wandering around his house talking on a phone and stock shots which over-hyped everything. Shots of nuclear bombs going off, alien heads, motor cars, adverts from tv... all totally irrelevant. Shots of an overpriced Apple Iphone X playing out text messages. Apple products and placement in plain view to try and show off always makes me want to vomit and this is how the documentary started.... Yes look at me Ive got the latest rip off iphone which Corbell sports like his mess of tatoos throughout as a pointless fashion statement. Something to distract the eye with no deep meaning.

We were told that all the people around him say Bob Lazar doesnt lie. Why not show them saying that. I for one would have liked to have seen his mother being asked about his schooling along with his wife and neighbors. However just when we think we are going to learn a lot about the young Lazar his mother is gone and so are any revealing stories. All she states is he was a kid who grew up in Florida. Is that all? Wasted opportunity. She wasnt asked about his schooling - was he a good student, did he drop out of or stay in school and do well. All questions which were not asked which left the viewer banging our heads against the wall.

There was a complete lack of corroboration for his MIT and Caltech days. Surely Bob could remember the names of teachers he had or classmates. Apparently not, or the question wasn't asked.

New tidbits of information which were interesting were the handscanners info apparently being correct and an EG&G employee being found that confirmed what Bob said. That was the only reason to be making the documentary and these points features for moments and were not investigated hard. I would have far rather focused on these points rather than seeing Bob say over and over and over again that he is telling the truth. However these important bits of new information probably had about 1 minute airtime in the whole documentary. What a waste.

There was a section where a "missing tape" of smoke chamber was sought out and then finally found. Yet the significance of what this tape was lacked explanation. We saw this footage and something about "light was meant to bend" but I didnt see any bending light... and it was just another ping pong edited in piece with no real gravitas and seeming purpose. Was I meant to learn something here Mr Corbell?

Lots and lots of drone footage of places that clearly were not Area51 and seemed to have nothing to do with anything became annoying. The Grand Canyon. Death Valley. What has all this got to do with Area 51. It didnt appear to me that Corbel actually visited Area51 or Rachel but used George Knapps footage as much as possible in a way that made it seem like he avoided travelling. The whole documentary had a feel of stock footage or other peoples footage used as much as possible to perhaps avoid travel?

I wish Mr Corbel would stick to just the facts maam... not waffle and filler and wizzy over the top cheesyvision graphics in your future efforts. And wow what a price tag to watch this over-hyped product. There was no way I was going to pay £16 to watch this so was glad it came to me by other means. Overpricing things like this just means people like me will refuse to pay. If it had been a couple of pounds/dollars I would have paid.

I've been in the UFO subject for the past 30 years and this film is one of the best out there. I really enjoyed watching it . I've always been fascinated by Bob Lazar's story since 1989 and this fine production is quite enlightening if you're into this stuff . I respect Bob Lazar's courage , tenacity , honesty and integrity . This film is excellent. Great work Mr Corbell !

I found this very interesting and after watching it, I have to say I believe Bob Lazars story. In the 80's I was skeptical but I believe it now. It's a shame the government hoarded this technology but I'm not surprised as it would turn the world on it's head if this got out: The end of pollution, end of famine, end of rich and poor. No maniacal, power-hungry person in their right mind would want to live in a world like that!

The documentary itself is technically not great but the Lazar parts are what makes it worth watching.
Doulkree

I'm just going to rate this documentary for the story it tells about Bob Lazar's life from the moment he came out with the alien story until thirty years later. Other reviewers gave some very negative ratings whilst I don't think that was justified. If a story about Bob Lazar is told by Bob Lazar himself I find that interesting rather than boring. Before even watching a documentary about aliens eveybody already has an opinion wether they believe or not that there is extraterrestrial life. So if you're believer you will believe everything Bob Lazar tells, and if you're a non-believer you will think he's a scam. Personally I'm a believer, as I once experienced an UFO sighting for myself, so there is no doubt in my mind that there is life out there. That governments would keep this information secret, especially the USA, is absolutely normal as the whole economy of that country relies on fossil resources and weapons. Remove wars and oil from the American economy and the whole system crashes. So of course they won't tell you about a spaceship that doesn't need fuel as that would destroy their own system. The documentary is far from perfect though. The narrator Mickey Rourke is unpleasant to listen to, but luckily he doesn't have a major part in this documentary. The film maker is also a bit boring to watch so that's a second bad thing about this documentary. But the explanations and interviews with Bob Lazar are very interesting and even for someone who doesn't understand that matter it's still explained so that everyone could understand. Bob Lazar as the alien whistle blower, deserves respect, just for telling the truth and that after being harassed and watched for his entire life. The fact that his house has been raided by every possible agency tells enough about him telling the truth. They wouldn't do all that fuzz for a liar. Just leave the guy alone and tell the world the truth.
Oveley

If your hoping as I was for more interesting revelations then you'll be disappointed. This is an interesting look at the same guy 30 years on who shocked the world with his story of S4 and flying saucers. It's a compelling look at Bob Lazar 30 years later and it's worth a watch but there's nothing new or anything we haven't already heard before. There is something about Lazar and his story that you can't help but believe. The guy has made no money or lived off fame. He told his story to stay alive out of fear after doing something foolish showing friends something he shouldn't of and as a result his life fell apart. He's made no money and disappeared out of the spot light and this is him 30 years later. Just a normal guy with a job and a wife. You can't find any reason he would lie... which means he must be telling the truth. You decide
