Wound Up (2016) Online

This is about being the better person. It is an artistic expression of the emotions that occur when you are being doubted by others, and how everyone needs one another to survive. We are all co-dependent one way or another.

Jhonny Parks' Wound Up packs an emotional wallop in a short amount of time. With no discernible dialogue, he manages to get you to connect to characters that are just cogs and spare parts. The hero of our story, The Nomad, is the simplest of these individuals but truly is a hero and shows that we are all worth while. This film is great entertainment for those who enjoy Steampunk, art and music. The sets were well designed and original. The best visual aspect was the complexity of the design of characters. The Judge and The Crippled will stay with you. The Judge may even haunt you in your dreams. Despite that fact, you will feel more hopeful about humankind after watching this. If we can emulate The Nomad, maybe there is still hope for us all.

This animated short is an adventure for the mind. Beautifully detailed backgrounds mix with a lush soundtrack that fits all the way through. The music pans from mysterious to upbeat, never conflicting with the film. The character cast is imaginative and the world comes together to breathe life into a must watch experience, that will keep you both guessing and entranced all the way until the end. There is an impressive level of detail in all of the models creating memorable characters. This short has a Tim Burton feel to it with a new spin that left me wanting more when it was all said and done. The story itself will take you on journey through your own subconscious. As a first film for the director I can only imagine where his next projects will take him and look forward to what's on the horizon. A definite must watch from a talented up and coming director.

An incredible freshman effort by Johnny Parks, wound up delivers a lush, detailed, and disturbed world of characters and environments. Wound Up brings us to a world of junk, with characters and sets made out of bits of clay and found materials like wires and bits of lamps and music boxes. We are taken on a ride through world seeing how its inhabitants eek out a living as it is falling apart around them. Each scene is presented with ingenious camera work and a wide range of motion. Parts of the film are evocative of Terry Gilliam. The soundtrack add to overall sense of unease, punctuating and adding texture to the happenings within this disturbed world. Overall, a beautifully crafted movie and a delightful watch that spans a range of emotions, and leaves you wanting to know more.

Supremely talented master of stop motion Jhonny Parks brings you a look into the world of junk-- the story is compelling and the creativity of the characters is unbounded. Each scene is stranger and more intriguing, and the visuals are captivating and bizarre. A true work of junk art! The process behind making this movie is what adds to the essence of the project that was shot frame by frame, each artifact hand crafted and skillfully manipulated using a green screen filmed in a small home studio. Look out for his new work What the Mouse? Wound up is a dark and unworldly journey, a thought provoking quest of self-seeking.

I was very impressed and loved this short film by Jhonny Parks! The graphics were amazing and the sound was like a nice fitted glove complimenting the piece. All in all I was in love with this movie from the first snap!As a video maker I have always been intrigued by stop motion pieces. This particular short film, however, also has a great story line. The story leading up to the movie and after the movie makes the flick a great lesson in being the bigger person and helping those that need help. In my eyes, ears, and head I enjoyed every snap shot, from beginning to end! I've been making music and miscellaneous videos for over a decade now. Never done a stop motion, it was always something I had aspired to do though, and after seeing "Wound Up" I believe that my next personal video project will be in stop motion. I have been inspired to do so after seeing this great piece! Jhonny Parks, in my opinion, can hold his own and roll with the best of them with his "Wound Up" stop motion short film! I would say to look for more amazing work to come from him as he works on and creates his own style or brand, of great, quality viewing! 10 Stars from this guy! Way to go Jhonny Parks! You made an outstanding flick!!
