Nathan Wilson (along with Ansel Faraj) performed uncredited rewrites on the screenplay.
The project was written and always intended for Jerry Lacy.
The original concept was entitled SHADOWSUN, and was about Detective August Shadowsun who operated in a more heightened fantastical world akin to Ansel Faraj's Doctor Mabuse (2013), but was "brought to reality" at the request of Jerry Lacy and Nathan Wilson. In this concept, Detective August Harrison had a pet octopus named Lovecraft.
Ansel Faraj has said the films Night Tide (1961), Touch of Evil (1958), and The Seventh Victim (1943) were primary influences on him, most notably in the first two films use of Venice Beach, Ca; and in the use of witchcraft lurking within urban landscapes in Val Lewton's production.
Kelly Erin Decker tested for Eleanora Willaims, and Noel Braham tested for Drake Johnson.
Bill Wandel composed the score for the film in a marathon 24 hour session.
Filmed between December 3 2014 - February 23 2015.
The character of H.P. Lovecraft was to have returned in a follow up production of THE DUNWICH HORROR, but the film (as of August 2018) is still in development at Hollinsworth Productions.
In Theatre Fantastique: The Family Wolff (2014), the characters of Nurse Emily Stapleton and Jamison Wolff work at Morningside Asylum. This may or may not be the same Morningside Sanitarium from the Detective Adam Sera series (see Under a Shroud of Smoke: A Detective Adam Sera Tale (2016) and Detective Adam Sera: The Long Dream Home (2017) ); as well as Morningside Sanitarium from The Last Case of August T. Harrison (2015).
