Artful montage, slow-paced cinematography, no dialogs. "Für Maria" is a rare film to come out of Cuba. You may be misled by its apparent sexual theme, but there may be other readings behind the images of bodies. Is this a game on reality? Is it even, to take it further, a hint at what underlies in Cuba? The multiple faces of a society?

I saw this short film at the Toulouse Latin American Film Festival in France and it made me hold my breath until the end. Later went online and found the website (www.furmaria.com), which takes the same spirit of the film. Highly recommend this short to anyone looking for the true new independent Cuban cinema. Looking forward to more pieces from any of these Cuban directors! Lis Fay
