The series was filmed around old black and white footage. After 1 episode was broadcast, a woman recognized black and white footage of her husband from 1940 and had been killed soon after, that was used in the episode and it was the 1st time the woman's children had seen their father.
Acting debut of Mel Gibson.
Actors involved in the storyline set in Singapore's Changi Prison undertook a three-week course in authentic prisoner behavior and were taught some Malay. The shoot actually took place in a gasworks during the cold Melbournian winter, a hardship for castmembers in sarongs and heavy suntan make-up.
Acting debut of Kylie Minogue.
The first Australian series to run continually for more than 7 years overseas.
An earlier version of Geoff Harvey's theme-tune was originally used in "The Two Way Mirror", a Grundy's pilot for a sexy adult soap for the Nine Network in 1975.
The first Australian series to be sold in more than 30 markets worldwide - it was eventually sold to 45 countries.
Was the United Kingdom's most successful and longest running overseas daytime serial at the time of its release.
This series achieved more firsts than any other Australian TV series.
