Ron Sullivan in his Henri Pachard mode directed Desert Fox (copyright: 1991) in a bemused mood - watching it decades later is a strange but intriguing experience. I guess I'm partial to his work but perhaps even arm's-length porn fans might find it a rewarding rediscovery.

Title is a play on the war of the time, Bush Senior's successful Operation Desert Storm into Iraq. Of course as a film buff I think of Rommel and specifically the classic James Mason film with this title, but as a typically misleading moniker Sullivan chose a suitable one.

Tom Chapman and Madison are happily married -he runs a bar and she's an effervescent lover. Odd film structure opens with them humping and after he cums on her belly she yells "I didn't come!" Chapman immediately obliges and they hump again for a second sex scene, yielding her orgasm but no second money shot.

Plot takes awhile to rear its ugly head, as reservist Chapman has a letter from the government calling for him to head overseas and defend his nation. Sullivan's script revolves around a rather outlandish but somehow workable coincidence that the blonde hooker who hangs out in Tom's bar, instantly recognizable even without her later huge breasts Taylor Wayne, is also in the reserves and also gets called up. Taylor is credited here with the dumb stage name "Farran Hytes" which fortunately didn't stick.

Loose narrative, clearly designed merely as a setting in which to set the XXX jewels, includes another pre-op all-time great Alicyn Sterling (just Alicyn at this point), in a lesbian scene which turns into a threesome with Tom. Madison also has a hot lesbian scene with the delightful actress Cameo, and it is Cameo who receives top billing in this movie -even though she plays a subsidiary role as Tom's bartender.

The contrived post-war happy ending when both Tom and Taylor return to the home front is a bit much, but Sullivan is a director who manages to bring sincerity or at least sincere absurdity to the least of his make-work projects, such as this one. Not swinging for the fences this time, but his career is loaded with singles while most of his peers were striking out.
