The production was fully financed by several foundations and organizations who supported the overall concept of the production and were therefore willing to help. There were also a lot of crew-members that decided to each take a few bills on them to ensure the production could maintain the quality that the crew was aiming at. Since no-one got paid, the production was therefore completely non-profit.
The idea to make this production emerged when co-producer Tom asked director/producer Remy (who are close friends) what he would make if he could make anything in the world. Remy then replied that he would love to make a music video for Lady Gaga's song Dance in the Dark one day. The chosen name for their YouTube account 'fifteensix2010' is derived from the date this conversation took place.
The production went through approx. 3000 Dutch girls to find a girl that could both dance and act/playback at the same time as well as looked a lot like Lady Gaga. Due to the fact that Lizalo Galama (who is now portraying Lady Gaga in the video) originally wasn't available at the original dates of filming, she was forced to learn the choreography, the mimicking and the playback in the last four days prior to filming. Therefore the producers made sure that she would get all the help she needed and she received a personal dance trainer, a personal 'gaga-trainer' and a personal production manager.
The fashion designer who designed and made all the costumes in the video is Allan Vos who was also a contestant of Project Catwalk. Michelle Provacia who did the choreography was a contestant of the Dutch version of So You Think You Can Dance.
Almost all the dancers in the video came from the Flexx_n Dance Academy in Eindhoven which was partly funded by choreographer Michelle Provacia.
All the extras in the video had to bring something personal for them that they could tell a story about and which connected to them on an emotional level. Some items include boxing gloves, pictures, necklaces, comic books, headphones and diaries.
Because the location was not found until the very last moment, some parts of the sets were still being made while shooting was already started. This meant that in between takes people had to use jackhammers and paint in order to get the video done in time.
