The entire film was almost lost in post production due to multiple external hard drives failing.

Several members of the cast and crew are trained martial artists including Zach Scheerer who holds a black belt in Taekwondo, the stunt coordinator Deanna Page who holds a black belt in Shotokan Karate, and one of the directors of the film, Adrian Acevedo Smith, who also holds a black belt in Taekwondo.

The unique silver belt buckle that is part of Marcus's wardrobe was chosen by Scot Fontaine, the costume designer, and provided by the brand Obscurebelts.

Both directors graduated Magna Cum Laude from USC's School of Cinema Production.

The film's protagonist original name was John, and was later changed to Marcus in order to stand apart from various other action heroes who share the same first name (i.e: John Rambo, John Wick, John McClane, John Preston, etc.)

Tungsten lights from the 1970's were used to light the film.

The Blackmagic Design Ursa Mini 4K was used to shoot the film and it was edited with Adobe Premiere Pro CC. Autodesk's Maya and The Foundry Nuke were used for the films visual effects.

The editing and visual effects for Soul Hunters was done on two Alienware X51 R2's from 2013.

The film was shot in 22 days across nearly 30 locations and almost each shooting day required a company move.

The directors of the film are bilingual which is why one scene includes dialogue in Spanish.

The composer of the film Brian Grider has collaborated with the directors on multiple projects before the release of Soul Hunters.

Jaclyn Winters, who plays Tania in the film, also starred in Adrian Acevedo-Smith's parody video Snake's on a Date with Samus on his YouTube channel, Godzillarex.

The directors of the film were living in Lancaster, CA when the film was shot, necessitating over 60 miles of driving each day to film the movie in various locations in Los Angeles.

Joseph Longobardo, Dave Kirkpatrick, and Elbin Palencia all starred in the directors USC film school projects.

Arturo Acevedo-Smith, the films Visual Effects Artist, spent 11 months working on nearly 100 VFX shots. They took approximately 35 days to render on multiple computers.

Soul Hunters is most of the cast and crews first feature film.

Originally the soul extractions were going to be invisible with no visual effect elements, the visual effects were then later added to enhance those scenes.

Adrian Acevedo-Smith, the films editor, stayed up every night after shooting until 4 AM to backup the footage on two external drives before waking up at 8 AM the next morning to get ready for shooting.

Mardik Martin read a very early draft of the script in 2013 and thought the concept was great, but the title, which was then "Malevolent," was terrible.

I really didn't expect much when I started watching the movie but I was pleasantly surprised. The action scenes really pack a punch and I haven't seen that kind of choreography in a long time. You get to see everything that's going on and they don't feel jarring or disorienting. There were a couple fight scenes in there that reminded me of movies like The Raid or Undisputed 2. The music in those scenes is awesome too.

I liked the characters, especially the lead and the angel, and the story has a surprising depth to it. It's got a unique concept going for it and I wanted to see more of this world.

The visual effects look very real too. But like the story, I wish there were more of them.

There's a couple scenes that just look plain empty, and the set design is really inconsistent. But considering that the movie had such a low budget, these were probably business related choices and not necessarily artistic ones.

All in all, I found the movie entertaining and I hope they get a chance to expand this world with a sequel.

Imagine Jean-Claude Van Damme in the movie Constantine. It's got mystery, magic, action, angels, demons, guns and badass spin kicks. Fight scenes are great and there's a couple beautiful women in there as well. What else do you really need to make 2019s new cult classic?

This is great film about an individuals battle between good and evil. It's a must see. Especially for teenagers and young adults to show them right from wrong mixed with fighting and lots of action. The acting was quite good from the main actor and some of the others. As always, God will prevail.

Let me start off by saying that I'm a huge comic book fan. Ok, with that being said. This could be an amazing comic book. The possibilities that the world created in Soul Hunters are endless. Yes, low budget feel, but the acting and screen presence of the actors were top notch quality. Not to mention the fight scenes were some of the coolest I have seen in a long time and they were not over done like you see in today's big box office action sequences. Soul Hunters kept it short and sweet but packs a punch. I was rooting for Marcus every inch of the way. And lead Actor Zach Scheerer is to die for. Mark my words, that man will be going places. He sucked me into the screen in every scene. As did Eli, wow. Every time they were on screen I could feel the energy and wanted them to start scrapping. And with the ending I am certain this world that was created will be coming back with vengeance and hopefully a theatrical big box office potential. Way to go Acevedo-Smith Brothers! I am excited for more.

Great story line with action packed scenes. I think a lot of effort was put into this with a good story line, the actors and the action Especially ithworking from a small budget.... if comparing to high budget films out there, this movie is right up there with competition. Great job everyone!!

Zach Scheerer was a pleasant surprise in this action thriller. His spot delivery of emotion, is backed up with incredible action sequences. Zach's character seemed to carry the film. Looking forward to seeing future films with him in it. All in all a very entertaining film and I would highly suggest grabbing the popcorn and getting comfortable on the couch!

Woah! If you like mixed martial arts, awesome choreography and realism to fights. This is the movie for you. I am a 1st Dan WTF black belt in TaeKwonDo. I thought it was very cool to see some Olympic style techniques in some of the fights. Very cool! And a great movie that would be a massive hit if it had the deserved budget. Great story, great acting,... small budget. It was a fun movie. Don't know how some people are putting up a 1 rating.. smh. It's definitely worth a watch, and one you could watch over and over again. ESPECIALLY the fights!!

Ok. Seriously though, this is like going back in time and watching a JCVD flick with awesome martial arts skills and action but with a better story and some amazing visual affects. I really enjoyed this flick!

It's certainly better than the new Stallone movie. Anyhow, of course this is hand-made and not a lot of money for effects or stunts and all of that, but somehow I liked the roughness of it all. It doesn't totally suck you in, it's rather like watching people play out the moral dilemma, with a bit of a 'ploitation here and there. Certainly better than frying your brain with over-financed crap, $150M visual effects that try to make up for the total lack of any story.

At least Soul Hunters has a story to tell. It has loads of edges, but it makes it stand out from all the streamlined junk Hollywood seems to be producing these years.

Saw this the other day with my son. Really great martial arts action, and a cool story too. I enjoyed the special effects, they all looked very well done. It does a great job of explaining it's world to you without feeling heavy handed and obvious like Inception or other movies.

I can't remember the last time I hit rewind on a final battle, but I can tell you I did just that with this movie. The story is great and the visual effects are pretty sweet, but that final fight, man, that was awesome. I liked the main guy too, he was tough, and a really skilled fighter. Some of the rooms in the movie looked pretty empty and there were a few parts that felt slow, but it's so worth it to get to that ending.

I saw it on Amazon on the new releases section and thought the summary was super interesting. Raquel and Kristen were both really great characters, I liked how they even got a chance to fight. Action parts were fun too!

Anyone can notice sinse the beginning that is a poor movie on everything. it is very bad, so pity that on IMDB can find this kind of rating,,,,,

This movie has some reviews with 10/10 and 9/10 ,(reason I bought it). I can only assume that the people associated with this "film" are the ones who posted those. ratings. It's VERY poorly made on a low budget. The entire movie is filmed with no more than 2 cameras. It has a ridiculous plot and I've seen better acting in grammar school plays. If a "real critic" was to give this more than 2 stars, he or she would be fired the next day. Just awful!

This film had all the qualities of being a block-buster! However, it failed miserably on quite a few points!

Lets first give praise, where praise is due:

The actors, Zach Scheerer,Franziska Schissler and Nikolay Moss managed to save this film through their very decent acting skills. I hope to see more of these three actors in the future. The rest of the cast... Well, lets just say, you need to work on your dialogue skills much more! Just a pretty face wont land you the next major roll.

The story overall was well thought out. The writers and directors (The Acevedo Smith Brothers) have a decent concept going here, that if tweaked a bit more could definitely end up in a good TV Series.

The special effects artist - well done. The few effects that there were in the film were realistic and well presented.

Overall, the film lacked presence and depth with minimal sets and props.

I give this film 5 stars out of 10. 1 for each of the three actors, one for the Acevedo Smith Brothers for the story and one for the special effects artist.

  • Acting are non existent.
  • Directors (family I assume) must have lost the manual on how to do cut scenes.
  • Effects can be made on a home computer with any half decent software.
  • I could not come up with a more generic story line and cliche title if I tried.
  • The bottom line! It's just terrible and annoying. A waste of any ones time.

The first 10-15 minutes of the movie I was very close to shutting it off. The acting (esp. from the Raquel character) was so poor I thought I was watching a high school Youtube dramatization. But, a few of the other actors, notably the lead and Eli, were a bit better - even if the script still was poor. And yes, effects are dirt cheap, the movie makers aren't what you might call cinematographers, the fights could've been better choreographed, and the plot has a few holes in it. In the end though, I actually cared a bit for the outcome and that's not shabby. If you like a bit of action coupled with magic, this could be at least a decent way of throwing away an hour or so of your life.

Really bad acting. The movie was very talkie, which emphasizes the bad acting. Low budget in so many ways. You can tell that most of the budget went into the special effects and the effects were just OK but very modest. I never turn a movie off no matter how bad but I made an exception in this case.

Bad acting. They used background music in every scene, even in like serious conversation! Those 10 stars reviews are exaggerating. Watch for yourself if you want, then give this thumbs up if you're agree with me.

The acting, the fighting, the effects, the plot.. everything about this movie was just garbage. I usually go by IMDB ratings when looking into possible new movies and they have never failed me til now. Would definitely not recommend this flick. You'd be better off watching R.I.P.D.

Never have I seen so much wooden acting in one place, unbearable, unwatchable, most 10 star ratings come from new accounts with 1 comment, made probably by people involved in the production
