Despite being filmed in the USA, every actor (including the American ones) was dubbed. This was common practice with Golden Harvest films as an assist to its Chinese actors who were not obligated to speak English.

Although filmed in 1974, the movie wasn't released until 1981 to cash in on Chuck Norris' popularity.

This movie is so bad I couldn't stop laughing. I've seen it like a dozen times because I find new screw ups every time! Why is there sirens in the police station? Why do the bad guys follow the cops while driving in front of them? How come punches, kicks, chains, 2X4's etc all make the same thump noise? The Best part: Chuck Norris's fake hairy chest. It looks like a vest. That can't be real. Plus why is Chuck dubbed? Does he even speak chinese?

That's what it was called when I saw it sometime around 1982. It was playing in a rundown theater in Denton, TX with my then boyfriend. We were in college in Denton and were huge Chuck Norris fans. We'd seen every 1 of his movies up to that point and the theater was advertising this 1. It was so bad that it played like a comedy. The dubbing was so awful that the dog physically barked and then you heard it 5 seconds later. Aside from this 1, I still like his movies.

I must of been despondent after watching this, or in complete stupefaction. I didn't find one thing about this dull action film or it's lead, entertaining, except bad arse drug kingpin, Chuck Norris being dubbed with an evil voice that actually boosts his performance if taking it from a 7 to a 200. You truly expect much more from this dull cheapie, and judging by the faded shot of Chuck, looking completely serious, sporting his moustache with a thinner face, you automatically assume, he's a good guy. If one can only wish. I'd know the end result would be much better than this waste of time, I had seen this tape looming on the shelves in the 80's and wondered what it would be like. If only it could of lived up to my expectations. Well, I might just get my cheap laughs from Chuckie, play bad, of course with a lot of help from some dubbed voice. Dubbed films are funny though, and it's kind of cool when you see people's lips move differently to the words that are uttered. This film isn't cool. It's a shame as it doesn't have a bad plot. It's just a "go nowhere" film that's unequivocally dull.

This movie could be for some people the best Kung Fu movie ever... This film has the best mafia/Kung Fu/sabotage plot ever written. In this film you'll get to see police corruption, a dog barking without opening his mouth, sabotage, Chuck Norris trying to rape a Chinese girl, 70s cop music, Don Wong riding a motorbike, cool cars, and a lot of black guys beaten up by Don Wong (maybe the movie was racist).

The film starts with some big letters that say: "CHUCK NORRIS IN" and then "slaughter in San Francisco". And so the film goes but then you realize that big o' Chuck isn't the primary character, in fact he's just a mafia guy known as "the Boss" that appears like 2 times in 30 minutes, he wears funny sun glasses and talks high pitched because of the English accent dubbing, don't worry about that, all the cast of this film even the Chinese have English accent and talk high pitched. (I can't imagine why), but that makes the film funnier. Alright, now that we all know what kind of movie is this, we can get to the story... Not much to say here, is the typical 70's/80's action thing, we have a cop and we have his black cop friend who is murdered because he saw too much, after that the Chinese cop starts to investigate who killed his favorite black friend. We can see our hero walking on the street with a cool 70's funk, searching for answers, visiting his friend's grave, his friend's wife and child (by the way, Blackie's daughter was smiling and playing with some toys while his mother was crying).

So, Don Wong (our hero) gets to the bottom of all and realizes that "the Boss" is the new San Francisco's drug lord and his men killed Blackie. So here we get to the typical final fight...a lot of extra guys who had no idea of what karate is, we got a lot of shots of Don Wong beating the hell out some really bad actors, the Boss eating an apple while he watches how Wong kicks their men's ass, Don Wong cutting a black guy's face with a shovel and the final Don Wong vs Chuck Norris fight. Great. Excellent movie. Recommended for nostalgia people, and low budget/lame plot Kung Fu fans. Richard Harrison style. Better.

I had to force myself to watch the entire movie, and I used to think that there wasn't a Chuck Norris movie I didn't enjoy. Just why couldn't or why didn't they use Chuck's real voice. Now that would have helped any diehard Chuck Norris fan even enjoy this movie. Sorry Chuck, I love you but you should karate chop those guys who decided to not redo the movie in your real voice. Well at least we got to enjoy the Chuck Norris body!!!!!!!!! I almost can't believe my comments considering how much I adore and love Chuck Norris!!!!!

****SPOILERS*** A blond beach-boy looking Chuck Norris playing top San Francisco mob drug kingpin Chuckie Slaughter does his best to keep a straight face in this movie that if anything should have earned him the top acting Academy Award honors for 1974. Norris in his first staring role plays the baddest of bad guys, having a gangster-like voice dubbed in, who not only runs the city's top drug operation but is as crude and uncouth towards the ladies in the movie as Jack the Ripper or Ted Bundy. It's Chuckie's attempt to rape his kid brother Paul's fiancée Sylvia Chu that in the end did him in and put him under. With former SFDP cop, and now restaurant waiter, Wong in taking him as his gang out and making chop suey out of them.

Wong who was framed by Chuckie's under-link Capt. Newman in a bank robbery that Chuckie and his boys pulled off that ended up killing Wong's police partner Robert Jones. As for the robbery it was blamed, with planted false evidence, on Mr. & Mrs. Chu, Sylvia's parents, who just happened to live next door to the bank that was held up. With Wong determined to find those that murdered his partner he discovers that his former boss Captain Newman was behind it. After kidnapping Newman and with a little friendly persuasion, like hanging him by his you know what, Wong finds out that Chuckie was the master mind behind this entire crime wave, as well as police and political pay-offs, that's sweeping the city.

***SPOILERS*** The final showdown has Wong take on Chuckie and his gang on their own turf with Chickie & Co. getting the worst of it. It was when Wong dumped Chuckie in the duck pond and his his yellow hair dye bleach started to run he finally called it quits. It was far more humiliating to Chuckie Slaughter to end up not being blond, since in his mind blonds have more fun, then taking a whopping from Wong whom at the time, before being dunked, he was more then holding his own against.

Officer Don Wong (Wong) is a San Francisco cop who is proficient in Martial Arts. Frustrated by the growing menace of gangs in the area, one day all his anger is unleashed and he gets into a big brawl. The brass back at the precinct aren't happy about this, and he has to turn in his badge and gun, and is actually busted down to waiter, working in, what else, a Chinese restaurant. It's there he comes into contact for the first time with crime lord Chuck Slaughter (Norris). After Wong's former partner gets caught up in the crossfire, Wong really has a yen for revenge and goes after Slaughter and his minions. Will his next brawl put him back on the police force? Find out today! Just so no one gets confused, Don Wong plays Don Wong and Chuck Norris plays Chuck Slaughter. Get it? Slaughter in San Francisco? Heh heh. Now that the formalities are out of the way, we can say what a silly - yet entertaining - movie this is. It's filled to the brim with big, plaid-centered 70's fashions, a nice, fuzzy, funky soundtrack with cool drums, and, seeing how it was a very mustachioed time back then, those are on just about every male face as well. Even though the film is ostensibly American, because it is a Golden Harvest production and everyone (including Chuck) is dubbed, somehow, things get lost in translation. And it's not just the overdubbed, loud, "classic" 70's Kung Fu-style dubbing, it's also the sound effects, like fist and foot blows sounding like someone smacking a cardboard box with an aluminum baseball bat. If someone hits you and that sound comes out of your body, you are in serious trouble.

Speaking of things that are over-inflated, the role of Chuck Norris in this movie comes to mind. His role is pretty small, but packaging was retrofitted to make this a Chuck movie after his success. Meanwhile, Don Wong, who is a real Don Juan, gives the Chuckster a run for his money. Additionally, we believe one of the thugs towards the beginning of the film (the guy in the brown leather jacket, though that doesn't narrow things down much) is none other than Ron Marchini. He's not credited, but we strongly believe it's him. Maybe someone out there can help confirm this for us. Nevertheless, Mr. Norris and his bizarre body hair situation Chucking it up to the soundtrack which sounds like a funky version of the music from NES' Lode Runner makes this worthwhile, never mind all the other ridiculousness herein.

As for buying this movie, the options available are not great. There's the version, under the title Karate Cop - not to be confused with the Ron Marchini-starring movie from 1991 - that was released on the low-budget label MNTEX, which is unfortunately in EP mode. Then there's the version on Rhino, under the Slaughter in San Francisco moniker, but that's a pan-and-scan barbarity. Nevertheless, we'd probably say go with the Rhino version, given the choices at hand.

For Chuck Norris fans and/or those who like their Martial Arts movies on the light and dippy side, only the most cruel among moviegoers would truly dislike Slaughter in San Francisco.

Slaughter in San Francisco is a different film. Don't let the box of the film or anything fool you because even though the film stars Chuck Norris he is barley in it! The movie really focuses on Don Wong most of the time. What does Norris do in the film being the crime boss? He eats, smokes, practices the martial arts on boards and at all different times of the film all of this only takes a couple minutes. At the end he finally fights Don Wong and the star of the film gets beat up! Also Chuck's voice is dubbed and speaking of dubbed. It seemed like the entire cast was dubbed! Even the police dog! The dog was barking while you saw him panting! It was crazy! The fighting however is really great and the sound effects used was funny! One thing I wanted to point out is when Wong's partner gets out of the bar and he and Wong are both drunk they fight each other and the punching sounds sound really loud but it looks like they are just easily throwing punches instead of aggressively doing so and after this they split up and Wong's partner is stumbling around very drunk on the street and several seconds later he is ambushed by a bunch of Norris' henchmen and he fights like a sober miracle happened! It was hilarious! The quality of the movie isn't too good but it really makes the nature of the film like the dubbing and sounds even better! Fans of Chuck Norris will probably be disappointed due to his small part and the lack of his real voice but fans of martial arts films in general will think of this as a special treat!

After seeing this flick, the voices of everyone (African American, Caucasian, and Oriental) were dubbed. Even the sound effects were trashy, like the constant "police sirens" sound effect during the police precinct scenes, as well as the sounds of the cars firing up, which sounds like a 4-cylinder import, not to mention the bull-whip sound effects when someone is punched or karate-chopped.

They should have had the Caucasian and African American voices heard normally, instead of some British accented voice-over. LOLs, when hearing an African American sounding like a Brit, as well as the dubbing of Chuck Norris' voice. The only thing worth hearing is the 70's score, common with the blaxploitation genre.

A suspended San Francisco cop (Wong) is sloving the case of the murder of his african american partner who was beat up by chinese. Then at the end of the movie,he had a fight with Chuck Norris.

Chuck Norris voice is not heard on the movie, it was dubbed by British people. I wish it had his real voice in the flim.

I like it.

I give it a *****.
