The actor playing assassin Elias Marcos in this episode received the onscreen credit of "Wray Nerely." However, this actor is actually Alan Tudyk, who has a cult following from having been a regular on the short-lived science fiction series Firefly and who has had roles in more mainstream blockbusters such as I, Robot and Frozen. The pseudonym he used for this guest role on Justified is the same as the name of his character in his 2015 TV series Con Man, in which he plays a little-known actor with a minor cult following from having appeared on a Firefly-like science fiction TV show. "Wray" is also Tudyk's real middle name.

Jean-Baptiste was killed in this episode because Edi Gathegi asked to be written out of the show.

Despite the further development of the Crowes (the season's weak link), 'Shot All to Hell' is undeniably exciting. Alan Tudyk (as a Tonin-family enforcer) is another name to throw on the pile of top-shelf guest stars, and he gives Nick Searcy a real moment in the sun when they throw down at a greasy spoon. But it's just one great scene after another, and the dread builds for both Raylan and Boyd; not to spoil anything, but the situation takes a horrible turn for the latter.

When I look back on this season, I remember it for the weak bad guys. But this soars in spite of that.

An outstanding exception.
