We've all heard about how low the writer is on the Hollywood mainstream totem pole - William Goldman has written about this issue brilliantly. In porn the situation has become even worse, and this Girlsway production exemplifies the problem, with the director "Stills by Alan" taking a story credit but the cast floundering for 90 minutes without a clue.

I felt quite embarrassed for the performers, especially Abby Lee Brazil as the nominal bad hat, in their confused and idiotic attempts at conversation. At times it seemed as if actresses had stumbled onto the wrong set and were bewildered at what was being said to them, but it was merely folks trying to persevere without proper training or experience in the art of improvisation.

My solution would not be to hire budding stand-up comediennes to enact a XXX scene instead of porno performers. Much simpler: hire a screenwriter. Up until recently (i.e., 21st Century) pornographers had a writer on the payroll and even in a bad film there was some semblance of order, characterization, maybe even a dramatic (or comic) arc. But now we get "Sorority Girl Showdown" and so many videos like it where everyone is just winging it.

This unfortunate shortcut was taken because Alan's premise is so simple and undeveloped: a 4-character sex drama in which pledges to Sigma Alpha Tau are mistreated by a mean senior girl (Abby) while the nice girl tries to help them. In Act 4 said nice girl (Keira Nicole) pulls rank as president of the sorority and metes out the light domination action to Abby that Abby is fond of dishing out herself. Cornball conclusion has Abby none the wiser, obviously intent on perpetuating her misdeeds because she enjoys it (and I would infer even enjoys being punished by her superior, the flip-side of a sadomasochistic personality trait).

So that's all there is here: giving rise to fresh young actresses smooching, licking, fingering and tribbing for the voyeur's pleasure. As a voyeur I felt cheated because this slice of life peeking inside a sorority at what sex goes on in there is patently phony from start to finish, with no characters or story development to impart even momentary interest. Alan delivers generic porn, and my initially strong interest in discovering his oeuvre has waned as a result. There's a prevailing school of thought that takes porn at face value: Russ Meyer = big breasts; John Stagliano & Jules Jordan = butt closeups; Kay Brandt = hot girl/girl action; but I demand a bit more depth.

Keira is the odd girl out in the video, she being a beauty who has none of the characteristics one associates with an Adult actress, i.e., she seems "too good" for this profession. As the abused youngster exotic-looking Cassidy Banks wins breast in show, and could have a future, if acting doesn't work out, appearing in bondage and fetish videos. Remaining young thing Adriana Sephora didn't make much of an impression, because she was merely good girl Keira's plaything (good girl being merely a relative term on a sliding scale here).

Overall a poor assembly line piece of work, lacking production values, story content and with weak casting - the sort of video which would have been scrapped had the bar not sunk so low in these benighted times. If Alan had to sell this on spec to some distributor I doubt there would be any takers, but Girlfirends Films releases all this product en masse, at worst making their own home-grown productions look better by comparison.
