The set for 'Adah Allen: Live' is the studio for local news station KCRG-TV9. Director Adam Orton began his production career with this station, and met Beau Batterson and Rob Merritt.

The chair used in Amelia's lab is the same barber's chair used in the original stage version.
Crew members had to remove their shoes before stepping on the all-white floor of the laboratory set. Additionally, the crew was instructed to wear dark colors to hide from the set's many reflective surfaces.
In one moment of film, a technician (Katy Slaven) stands near Amelia (Angela Billman) while Max (Eddie Jemison) stands near another technician (Isaac Helgens). Slaven and Helgens both played Amelia and Max in the first produced version of the play.

John Livingston had originally been cast as "Paul Wesley," but creative changes were made that didn't suit this decision. But the director was impressed with Livingston's insight into the script and experiences growing up in a Christian home, and wrote the role of "Sam Patterson" specifically for him.
Eric Roberts was originally cast as Paul Wesley. Scheduling conflicts resulted in Ed Begley, Jr. being cast in the role instead.
Angela Billman, who plays Amelia, was also in the Theatre Cedar Rapids main-stage show.
