Raniconne

Raniconne

A fresh french comedy about making money by knowing bank secrets. After "Ah! Si j'étais riche", Gérard Bitton and Michel Munz show us how common people use stock exchange secrets to make money but also how they help their fellow men. Once again the script is original and very funny, and the choice of Jean Pierre Darroussin, Barbara Schultz, Gérard Lanvin and Philippe Magnan is very subtle. From the beginning to the end, you don't have time to be bored because the rhythm is always the same and jokes appear at the right moment. In the background, two parallel light love stories are adding a touch of charm and romanticism which are not degrading the main story. You can put your money on this movie with no hesitation, you won't regret it... 7 out of 10, not less.

When we first meet Julien Focault, he is on his way to his job. Julien is dressed as fitting to a banker, but in reality he is the chef that prepares the meals for the executives. After being employed for seventeen years, he has little to show for himself. Julien has friend, Etienne, a chef at a small bistro. Julien wants to open a small place where the two friends can cook and be on their own. Unfortunately, it requires capital, that is, a lot of money they do not have.

One day, while at the kitchen in the bank, which is right behind the executive suite, Julien spots a cockroach. The insect runs away into an air vent, disappearing at once. Julien discovers to his amazement that after he removed a small panel, he can hear perfectly what the bankers are plotting. Julien decides to act on his good fortune, but for that he and Etienne must borrow some money to engage in their own investment.

This comedy came as a total surprise on a French cable channel recently. Gerard Bitton and Michel Munz created an amusing film that is a lot of fun to watch. The interesting part is that with little effort, these men have succeeded where others have tried, and failed. The plot is not exactly new, but the finished product shows a lot of talent with a great sense of humor. The last part of the film keeps the viewer in suspense as the directors resolve the situation for the enjoyment of the audience. The film is a satire on the world of high finance involving banks.

Gerard Lanvin makes a wonderful contribution in the comedy. Usually seen in more serious parts, Mr. Lanvin is perfect for Julien. The excellent Jean Pierre Darroussin matches his co-start with his less serious attitude to life. His Etienne is fun throughout the film. Phillipe Mangan is seen as the hateful head of the bank. We also enjoyed Scali Delpeyrat who is the local banker involved in carrying the transactions for Julien.
