Rosewater (1999) Online

Images of connections and disconnection. A solitary man sits in a car in an abandoned field next to a power tower and a bridge. Into view comes a stranger carrying a bucket of water. He washes the solitary man's car windows, raps on the glass, and leaves a rose. We see the solitary man in a basement studying the rose. He goes back to the field to plant it. He dons a gas mask and sprays the flower. It crumples. He puts the petals in a basin of water and splashes his face.

If you are an elitist and love watching artsy films that would make most audience members' heads ache, then have I got a film for you. ROSEWATER is a black and white student film that is filled with lots of incomprehensible story elements AND to top it off, the characters behave like non-emotive robots. If that doesn't annoy and confuse most viewers, I don't know what will! And so, as all those around you are disgusted because they can't follow the story, you can pretend to know exactly what it's all about and lord this over them. This, I assume, is the only reason anyone might want to see this film.

To be fair, this is a student film done by a student at Temple University (you see lots of Philadelphia scenery as well), so perhaps this is just a blip on an otherwise positive career. My advice, though, is try to make a film that either will appeal to most people or at least make one that offers more than just nice camera work, as at least ROSEWATER was filmed well.
