Medusa's Ankles (2018) Online

Medusa's Ankles is an adaptation of Man Booker prize winning author A S Byatt's short story of the same title directed by Bonnie Wright. Filmed in London this January 2016 starring Kerry Fox, Jason Isaacs and Chanel Cresswell. Susannah (Fox), a middle-aged classics professor, is enticed into a hair salon by a Matisse print and finds an unexpected comfort in the hairdresser, Lucian (Isaacs). This relationship builds but takes a dramatic turn when the salon is remodeled and the atmosphere and characters entirely change. The story's plot proposes an illusory release through violence. Through its juxtapositions and patterns of imagery, the story addresses in the protagonist the inevitability of physical decay, the loss of a sense of identity with one's body.

I'm in love with this film! Such powerful character development in a short film.

I can't stop to watching it, looking for all the meaningful delicious details the director underlines to convey a subtle emotion. A gentle hand on the shoulder, a smile and an eye contact through the mirror, gradually replaced by a brusque gesture, a raised eyebrow, an indelicate comment. I find very moving and intriguing the way everything tends from a sweet beginning to the dramatic end. The script is very respectful towards the original beautiful short story, and the actors are so natural and well matched that it has something magic.
