This film is definitely worth checking out if you were a fan of the theatrical film "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy." This feature seems to be made of cut footage from the first movie, including a complete alternate ending for the original film. In many ways, this second ending makes more sense from a writing standpoint, as many things that are introduced early on in the script (that are funny on their own, don't get me wrong) come back in the dramatic conclusion.

The only flaw in this feature is that it tries to pass itself off a sequel, instead of cut footage, and it doesn't quite work. Then again, if you can suspend your disbelief -- that concept becomes pretty funny, as well.

Chock full of great material from Will Ferrell, this film also gives some more screen time for Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, and David Koechner. Justin Long (Dodgeball) even makes an appearance.

Great stuff... although it starts to raise the question - how much money did they spend on this movie? Enjoy folks!

Before seeing this movie, it is a good idea to see Anchorman. At that point, if you have not laughed yourself into a comatose state, then it would be a good time to see this film. From the first few moments watching this, you can see why the footage in this movie was trimmed from Anchorman. Not as funny as that film, the line delivery lacks the 70s-induced obliviousness of the original. What you do see is the main characters of the two movies get deeper into their characterizations, taking them in a slightly different direction from the first film. Some of the scenes in this movie feel out of place with the narration, an element of the film I personally could have done without. This review sounds negative, but what I am listing here are only small gripes with an otherwise acceptable film. Together, Anchorman and Wake Up, Ron Burgundy make one hilarious movie. Without the first, Wake Up Ron Burgundy feels kind of strange.

As I am sure most of you know, Wake Up, Ron Burgundy was compiled completely of deleted scenes and alternate takes. Some are saying it is a sequel to Anchorman, but it feels more like an alternate movie. The same things happen to all the characters, but in different ways. All it took was a narrator to piece together the scenes on the cutting floor and there you have it, another movie!

Wake Up, Ron Burgundy is obviously not as good as Anchorman, due to the fact that most of the best scenes made it into the original movie. However, it is an awesome supplement to the original movie, complete with it's own set of special features. It even has it's own deleted scenes. Considering the movie is all deleted scenes, they must have had a ton of extra footage to pull together a project like this. If the movie had to stand on it's own, I would not rate it very high, but for what it is, I give it about a 6.5/10.

i loved 'Anchorman' and it took me a long time to find 'Wake up' after i found out there was such a movie. i enjoyed it, although it is really worse than Anchorman, but you should always keep in mind that (the official story) this is a 'movie' compiled of scenes unrealized from the original movie as well as alternative subplots. having this in mind just take it lightly and enjoy it, as there are some genuinely hilarious scenes that will wet your pants with laughter. still 'wake up, Ron burgundy' isn't in a form to be considered a movie on its own, as it only works as a supplement to 'anchorman:the story of Ron burgundy' - just a way of the team to have some more fun filming some crazy ideas, and for the viewers to enjoy The News team some more

i enjoyed it :)

I will be truthful. It was not as good as the original anchorman, but it was still good, in it's own way. The continuing story of Ron Burgundy and his girlfriend Veronica. This time, Ron goes too far....again. Veronica sends Ron on a mission to a fake newscast. The fun discontinued though, after Veronica finds out that Ron could be dead. She begins to worry, and goes out by herself, looking for him. All of the news anchors end up kidnapped. And afterwards, when they are freed, Ron and Veronica fall in love again. This movie deserves the same recognition that its predecessor, "Anchorman" had. It may not have been the same caliber as the original, but is just as fun when it comes down to the story. I laughed, I cried, I loved it. 10 out of 10.

Instead of just including the deleted/alternate scenes of "Anchorman", the producers edited them together into a brand new movie. Even though there is new narration explaining how it is a sequel, it is very clear to anyone watching that many of the scenes are alternate versions of scenes in the original film. The main plot (which is most likely a discarded subplot from the original) involves a pacifist gang called the alarm clock, whose members include Maya Rudolph (SNL), and Amy Poehler (Upright Citizens Brigade, SNL) is also in the film. This movie is not as funny as the original, and moves a bit slower, but all together it is worth seeing if you liked the original.

I loved "Anchorman; The Legend of Ron Burgundy" and hoped this would be just as funny, but alas, it wasn't. Some bits are excellent though. I thought the sports guy, Champ Kind, professing his love for Ron Burgundy in the car filled with the other members of the news team was hilarious. Everyone is ignoring him and he just gets louder and louder and finally kisses Burgundy which doesn't get acknowledged either. But on the whole the story doesn't gel. It's a noble attempt, however, to salvage the unused bits from the first movie, including an entire plot about some pretty benign would-be domestic terrorists called "The Alarm Clock." Maya Rudolph of Saturday Night Live is one of the members and has a couple of funny lines, but basically this unused plot line has good reason to be unused in the first movie. The extras on this disk are pretty good, with the best two being the filmed rehearsals featuring lots of improv comedy, and the faux commentary with Will Ferrell and an "exec producer" who Ferrell discovers early on was not even a part of the movie in any way, shape or form. Turns out he's "just a guy" who walked in the side door of the recording studio and pretended to be a producer. It's some pretty funny stuff though and goes on for about 10 or 15 minutes

fans of Ron, brace yourselves, because he's back. While the movie lacks direction (since it was put together on such short notice) the channel4 news crew is as funny as ever, and we can ask ourselves why some of these outtakes didn't make the first cut. For example the scene where the crew is stuck on the mountain and almost resorts to cannibalism is hilarious, and Brick remains the same street smart guy in a world he never made. Although we miss guest star appearances from "frat pack" members, Ron Burgundy is as proud, macho and funny as ever. At some points though, the cuts seem really fake: they show scenes from the first movie with added narration to cover the new subplot, which, by the way is awesome because it gives up the "rip the lid" sequence, which is probably the funniest in the movie.

This film is a must see for anyone who wet his pants watching "Anchorman".

Could "Anchorman" have been funnier had it been allowed to stretch itself out beyond the two-hour limits of a commercially-minded comedy? Here's a chance for us "Anchorman" lovers to find out.

In "Wake-Up Ron Burgundy", we see San Diego's Channel 4 news team in action once again. Ron (Will Ferrell) struggles with love and jealousy as co-anchor Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate) achieves her dream of big-time success. Meanwhile, their little world is threatened by the emergence of the incompetent but very radical terror cell who calls themselves "The Alarm Clock". When Veronica is captured by this gang, it's up to Ron and his buddies to save the day.

No use getting too excited about that long-discussed "Anchorman" sequel: This is strictly outtakes from the first movie, with some clever editing disguising the fact that Ron and Veronica are meeting here once again for the first time. Better you think of this as an alternate-reality "Anchorman" than a real sequel.

Narrator Bill Kurtis puts it in perspective in his opening narration. What we are about to see, he explains, is "the chaff from the wheat, the skim from the milk, the pudding from the all-you-can-eat lobster buffet, and the surgeon guy from Prince and the Revolution."

What "Wake-Up" really is is a chance to see Ferrell and his co-writer/director Adam McKay working even more of their creepy-funny comedy vibe. Scenes in "Anchorman" could stretch on a bit, but made their point. Here, they stretch on beyond that point, then stretch further.

Ron needs a moment to compose himself on-air while reading a tender story about a Japanese devil owl, then another, and then another. "A lot of emotion here," he says, tearing up.

A creepy mentor figure, Jess Moondragon (Chad Everett) pops up to offer no meaningful advice for Ron, but plenty of lustful rumination on what he'd like to do to Mother Nature - "things you can only do in Bangkok."

Such scenes work as goofier riffs on ideas from the first film, but with a rub. Watching Ron and Veronica's awkward first date a second time isn't so killer with a long sequence showcasing Ron's driving skills replacing his mastery of the jazz flute.

Because it's all outtakes, however skillfully put together, there's story gaps galore and rehashed gags from the first movie with slightly different blocking. The Alarm Clock angle works in bits, but is too thin to serve as a framing device. The character build-up that made "Anchorman" so immersive is shortchanged here. Most of that made the first film.

Fans of Champ Kind (Dave Koechner) will enjoy the wild man acting even wilder here; one moment he's a raving homosexual, five minutes later he's a raging cannibal. Brick Tamland (Steve Carell) lunches on used coffee filters. In addition to Everett (his send-up of the serenely sleazy Moondragon aided by a strong late-career resemblance to Clint Eastwood), there's a brief killer cameo from Stephen Root as a fill-in anchor.

Like I said, it's all sweet stuff if you're an "Anchorman" lover. But it's definitely not the sleeper classic "Anchorman" has become. It's definitely more self-indulgent in its humor and fitful in its direction. "Wake-Up" shows that in addition to being frightfully clever, the people behind "Anchorman" had a lot of sense in where to trim.

Look, I loved the PROPER Anchorman film, but this was reaaaaallly bad. The kind of bad that makes you wish you could get that time back in your life, the kind of bad that makes you think "what on Earth were they thinking to film this in the first place", the kind of bad that makes you wish you'd taken 50 more minutes when stepping into the kitchen to grab a snack during the film, the kind of bad that makes leprosy look fun, the kind of bad that makes you think you wish you rented a Pauly Shore film instead....seriously, I cannot explain how very bad this was.

Having said that....there were some semi-amusing laughs, but they are all so much LESS funny than Anchorman. Sure, they tried to make it entertaining and fun, but the entire subplot that was left out of Anchorman that made it here was genuinely left out for a good reason...it wasn't even a little bit good.

Do yourself a favour (or in the USA, a favor), and don't watch this DVD...it will tarnish the good movie that Anchorman is and you don't want to do that.

Okay...I'm alright now.

Wake Up, Ron Burgundy had a lot better and realistic storyline than the original film. However, in a film such as this, a good storyline really doesn't make much of a difference. It was the crazy and comical situations that made the first film such an uproarious experience and this 'second' film just didn't have it. Yeah, there were some funny situations, but for the most part, I was bored watching it. It was very easy to tell that this film was not previewed in front of a test audience as there were some scenes that just dragged on a bit too long and went from the funny stage to the uncomfortable stage, such as the scene where Champ just goes on and on and on and on in the car about how he is really in love with Ron. Funny at first, but after a while, I was beginning to feel uncomfortable with it. In my opinion, they should have just sorted through it, found the funniest material (as there was some stuff that was WAY funny) and just compiled it into a longer edit of the original film. I own the DVD and I know I'll probably never watch it again. There are some scenes I'd really like to see, but I know that if I want to watch them, I'll just skip through the movie to find them and not watch the movie in whole. The best part of the DVD was the even MORE deleted scenes that were never used in either film and the multiple takes of the same scene, especially the ones that included Brick.

First off, this is a very funny sequel. Even though it isn't technically a sequel, actually it is some cut footage from the original version of "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy". I have to admit, this is somewhat superior in parts to the original. There are even some parts of the film that make me wonder why they were cut out in the first place. There are some stand out scenes that are absolutely hysterical (Champ, admitting his secret love for Ron, The Cannibalism scene with 7-Eleven & Burger King seen in the background). This is truly a work of Monty Python-esquire satire. This plot of alarm-clock bandits is MUCH, MUCH better then the panda plot in the original. It's a wonder why the director and studio felt the need to change the plot from this to the panda sub-plot. I HIGHLY, recommend "Wake Up, Ron Burgundy"!

Wake up, Ron Burgundy is allegedly made of deleted scenes from Anchorman, but while it's obvious how some scenes fit into the movie such as Ron's dangerous driving here leading to the parking scene in Anchorman, there's no way most of this would have ever fit. I assume a lot of last-minute re-shoots were involved.

Some elements work. The Alarm Clock gang is hilarious. They are a group with political goals, but seem unclear on what they are and lack any sort of grand plan. The bit with Amy Poehler as a bank teller who refuses to give them any money because they are so inept as bank robbers is one of the best in the movie. Justin Long as Ed's sullen teenage son, Chris, and Chad Everett as Jess Moondragon, Ron's mentor who won't shut up about how inappropriately he loves nature, also have some very memorable bits. Note that none of these (fairly significant) characters are in Anchorman.

Unfortunately, the movie is just a series of bits. It doesn't really come together. To some degree, this is to be expected in a movie assembled from deleted scenes, but it's more than that. The jokes get too much narrative priority, often leading to things that just don't fit in the context of the movie. Veronica Corningstone's personality is all over the place and Champ King's moment in the car goes on way too long, even though it starts well, for instance. This really hurts suspension of disbelief as it never really establishes any rules to play by.

This is a serious problem, but I'm giving the movie a 6 anyway, mainly because it made me laugh so hard I nearly vomited on several occasions, like when Brick explained what he was eating or any of Paul's attempts to explain the manifesto. In short, this is a great way to present deleted scenes. It isn't a great movie.

When I picked this up I was looking for a brand new Anchorman adventure but I found a new version of the Original. It follows the same basic storyline Ron and Veronica fall in love, Brian, Brick, and Champ are all jealous. But with the addition of Alarm Clock, A group trying to bring the truth to San Diego, and a few never before seen parts , Like when Ron and Veronica jump on the table and Ron screams "Lets make a Baby!" or when Ron gets shot saving Veronica's life, that are pretty fun, Its funny and almost as good as Anchorman. Since it comes packed with the Unrated Anchorman, Its a pretty good buy. It also has some new Special Features, Such as Rehearsals and Cast Auditions, and it also reveals more about Champ's obsession with Ron. Gross! I give it an 8/10!

I don't understand how you could bash this movie. OK it is not as funny as the original movie but for Anchorman fans this is a must see/have. Ithas its moments where you can't help but laugh at the stupidity. Ron Burgundy, Brian Fantana, Brick, Champ, and Veronica are all extra outrageous. Slapstick humor at its best. It even comes with Ron's leather bound diary. This movie has generated many new lines that my friends and I habitually throw out in everyday life at each other. Don't act like you're not impressed. The only problem with this is the movie is sold together as a package, raising the price. I wish they would sell it separately

If you are a fan of the news team, this is a must watch 'cause it does have its moments, just enough to enjoy some more madness from the team.

Cast is again, very good. Now, the story is not that good, as expected and I am angry that the makers tried to set it up as a story in the first place. Hatching up a story isn't difficult, but if it is to shine, you better make a good one. When I heard some deleted scenes & shots were being collected into a single movie; I rejoiced.

But the final product is too shabby. And quite boring, too. Now I know how editors have a very tough job. Thank God, these scenes didn't come up in the original movie. But still, it was kinda fun to watch the team pulling Veronica's leg. Also, not to mention,t he script is more obscene here!

BOTTOM LINE: Anchorman fans should give it a try. Others can skip!

Anchorman was my favorite Will Ferrell movie before Blades of Glory, so ever since I learned of this DVD "movie" years ago, I had wanted it. However it was unfortunately only available as a bonus disc to the original movie and not readily available on region 1, and it wasn't even released on region 3. Hence I was quite happy to finally buy this (with Anchorman) in Oz.

Was it worth the wait? Yes, and no. I hadn't known beforehand that this "movie" was made of various cut extended scenes and deleted scenes and such, and so it's not quite as coherent as a normal movie. Still, there's effort put into the cutting and pasting, and the result is indubitably more fun (and easier) than watching the individual scenes as standalones the way they are typically relegated as in DVD bonus features, which I don't even bother to watch, usually.

So yes, I'm quite happy that I got this DVD, but I doubt it would be of any interest to anyone who didn't like (or watch) Anchorman. 6

I'm not sure why so many people on all sorts of different sites keep claiming this is some sort of hodge-podge thrown together after the "original" this is the original ... it was even spotlighted on entertainment tonight ... yrs ago ... they showed the scene where ron complains about the font during their preview of the film and then interviewed Christina about working with will this movie was screened for test audiences and bombed ... i mean - its in the Voice-over at the beginning of the film ... they tell you right up front what this movie truly is ... the original that bombed ... they then took the bits that worked ... the romance between ron and veronica ... the breakdown of the gang when ron spends more time with veronica ... the "bond" that champ has with ron its a totally separate and original film - and i really think it does a better job of capturing the 70s news vibe ... less silliness - the gang fight - the flute solo - baxter getting punted - those are all very funny ... but got away from what the title claimed to be i know its not fitzcarraldo - but i think there's a better story in this version

Normally when movies come out on DVD, they have a handful of deleted scenes, left out for obvious reasons. 'Anchorman' has taken this one step further. It has enough deleted/alternate scenes for a second movie, which brings us to 'Wake up Ron Burgundy'.

What's more impressive is the material left out of the original is just as funny - at times even more - than 'Anchorman'. While some scenarios are repeated (the pool party, Ron and Veronica's date, Ron's practical jokes on Veronica, Ron's slide into depression after getting fired), WURB not only has a different plot - a group of robbers known as The Alarm Clock terrorize San Diego - it also builds on the characterisation alluded to in the original.

In WURB, we learn about Brick's past, Veronica's motivation for becoming an anchorlady, the extent of Champ's homosexuality and his infatuation with Ron and more on Ed Harken and his troubled son. Some of the scenes deserve to be included in Anchorman folklore: Champ's hillariously awkward confession of love to Ron, Ron's inability to read the news without a teleprompter, and Ron's Mother Nature-loving (literatelly) mentor.

My only criticism of this film is the narration, which sets the film up as a sequel to Anchorman, and feels a bit out of place.

While it probably won't surpass the original as a comedy classic, it's a brilliant companion piece which is more than just a collection of deleted scenes, it's a movie in its own right.

I just saw this the other day and felt compelled to write a review! This movie is most certainly not one to watch if you haven't already seen Anchorman:The legend of Ron Burgundy, but if you have, and you loved it (I do!) then this is a truly welcome addition.

The story comprises of a sub plot intended for Anchorman that was dropped (presumeably because it wasn't that good) involving a terrorist organisation called "The Alarm Clock" hence the Wake up Ron Burgundy! title. The Alarm Clock are easily the worst terrorist group in the world having no political agenda, and not really knowing what they are doing, end up kidnapping Veronica Corningstone to use her to broadcast their as yet undecided political statement. So it's up to the rest of the intrepid news team to save her.

There are some truly hilarious bits in this film, one where Champ Kind is professing his undying love for Ron in the car but everyone pretends they can't hear him is very funny, and another where we learn that the seemingly stupid Brick Tamlind was in fact the leader of a group of soldiers in the Vietnam war with the other news team members is very funny.

All in all, it's one for the fan boys, not for the people who didn't like Anchorman, and it's only a bit of a laugh anyway, it was never a theatrical release.

for the first 20 minutes, i thought it would suck. the jokes were only OK, and they were showing almost the same stuff as the first one. i was depressed. then it got interesting. the story completely changed, and after about a half hour, it felt like Anchorman 2. It got really good. It wasn't as funny as the first one, but it had some good laughs. Anchorman is my favorite movie. that easily rates a 10/10. i was excited for this one, and got what i expected. An OK movie with some more laughs from the news crew. But seriously, how much did they film? id give this movie a 7.5/10, just because i love Anchorman. If i only thought Anchorman was OK, id give it a 6.5/10. If you want more of the news crew, definitely see it, you'll love it.
It's so easy

It's so easy

A collection of Deleted scenes and alternative takes, edited together and with added voice-over to make it appear to take place after the events of the first. Pretty cool idea, but deleted scenes are left on the cutting room floor for a reason and this is further proof. As it's just not as funny as "Anchorman", and really let's face it THAT film wasn't exactly comedy gold either, so you get a 'movie' worse than one that was moderately funny. In my eyes that STILL puts it one or two notches above "Kicking and Screaming", or "Bewitched". Chross your fingers that "The Wedding Crashers" is a return to old school form (no pun intended)

I loved anchorman but this movie made me really upset, it was terrible, there was no point in putting this movie together through alternate scenes and deleted scenes, it was only funny to the people who made the movie, I understand that they thought it would be funny, but it really wasn't. I am a huge fan of the work that all those guys do , but i just didn't really understand the point for that movie. I laughed once and that was at brick. I was expecting a whole new movie, i guess i wasn't expecting what i saw. I wouldn't write this sort of thing if i didn't think anything was wrong. I also thought going into watching this "new movie" as it is presented, that it was actually a new adventure.

How dare you make such a movie? I saw this movie out of my love of the "Classic" Anchorman. But it was disappointing. I have seen worse but no wonder why all these scenes and the plot not forgetting to mention was not a part of the EPIC Anchorman. If Anchorman made you laugh this doesn't even get in the class of "All About Steve". The editing, dialogue, and the one thing that would make it even worse the absolutely ridiculous plot. Watched it for 40 mins and I felt myself Nauseating. The only thing according to me was Will Ferrel that made the movie tolerable for 40 mins. at least.
