In 2016, the Australian state of South Australia celebrated the 40th anniversary of Storm Boy (1976)'s original premiere release date of November 1976.

Alexandrina Council, the South Australian local council district where much of 'Storm Boy' (1976) was filmed, celebrated the film's 40th Anniversary with a commemorative screening of the film, exhibited at Goolwa's Centenary Hall.

The Goolwa Tourism Office at Signal Point in South Australia held a special exhibition celebrating the film's 40th Anniversary in 2016.

According to Alexandrina Libraries, this film is a "talk presented by Bill Cox celebrating 40 years of Storm Boy - the author and the film revisited."

Of 'Storm Boy' (1976), on the movie's 40th Anniversary, the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC), the studio which made the movie, said: "The SAFC is immensely proud of this beautiful and special film which played such an important role in South Australia's screen industry."

At Teachers' College speaker Bill Cox was a student of 'Storm Boy' novelist Colin Thiele.

According to the National Film and Sound Archive's 40th Anniversary Online Exhibition about 'Storm Boy' (1976), "filming began on 24 May 1976 and it was primarily shot in the sand dunes near Goolwa, South Australia. Although completed on time and budget, the crew were kept busy retrieving props from freak waves and pulling sunken vehicles out of the sand."

Of the event depicted in this DVD video, the 'Visit Alexandrina' website states: "2016 saw the 40th Anniversary since the 'Storm Boy' film was released with celebrations across the district. Alexandrina Council celebrated with a commemorative screening of the film in Centenary Hall , Goolwa. Special guests included Bill Cox, a former Teacher's College student of Colin Thiele's and longstanding volunteer from the Goolwa Library History Room, Avis Rohde (nee Thiele) who is Colin Thiele's sister, and the family of John Baily. John was the illustrator of 'Storm Boy', a colleague and friend of Colin Thiele and they spent many hours fishing together on the Coorong."

Of the event depicted in this video DVD, the 'Victor Harbor Times' reported: "Alexandrina Council organised a celebration of the movie ['Storm Boy' (1976)] as part of the SA [South Australian] History Festival, and more than 200 people attended the event at Centenary Hall. At the event, attendees could browse through a display of historical material from the Goolwa Library's history room which documented the film's creation. Before a screening of the film, Bill Cox, a former Teacher's College student of Colin's and long-time history room volunteer, made a presentation about Colin and his works. Special guests included Colin Thiele's sister Avis Rohde, and Jo McLeay, the daughter of John Baily, who drew the original illustrations for Storm Boy."
