The film was initially going to be released during the summertime on August 25, 2017, but it was pushed to December 1, 2017. Dimension Films then opted for a release date in time for Thanksgiving, debuting on November 22, 2017. Finally, three weeks before the release, Lantern Entertainment (previously known as The Weinstein Company)/Dimension Films put the movie on hold indefinitely due to the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

This film is based on Lars Klevberg's short film Polaroid (2015).

The camera used in the movie is a Polaroid SX-70. Whenever it is used in the trailer, the distinctive sound of a charging flashgun is heard, followed by a pop and visible flash when the picture is taken. However, the SX-70 has no flash built in and there is no flash attachment fitted to the camera.

The plot of the film is nearly identical to an episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark? (1990), titled "The Tale of the Curious Camera."

The movie was filmed in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia Canada, at the Prince Andrew High School.

Additional photography was filmed in Los Angeles in June of 2017, weeks before the original release date. The movie was then shelved indefinitely.

Mitch Pileggi had a long and successful career playing characters on television shows who dabble in the supernatural and paranormal realm. Most notably, he played Walter Skinner on the acclaimed series The X-Files (1993).

Mitch Pileggi played Sam and Dean Winchester's maternal grandfather on several episodes of Supernatural (2019), a television show that also involves supernatural phenomena.

Even if I had watched this movie like 30 years before it would have been crap - but now ? the one thing that kills a horror movie is if it's boring. and this 90min pic is so jejune it felt like 150min. the monsters are looking like the dementors from harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban (just worse) but this movie is 15 years old. and then we have the cringey dialogues. "hello is there anybody" or "he died with the camera in his hand" nobody is talking like that. at the end we have the exorcist-walk (just worse) witch doesn't help the movie at all. 20 years ago people would say "this movie is not good at all but it's ok" but today it's just not at all creative to kill someone with a random object.

i'm really disappointed and we will find this movie again in the flop 10 2019. i can already say that

I am surprised that there is no bigger audience for this good film

So back to the film; normaly at the end of the film, a Horror film

with an age rating of 13 Years mostly is getting boring.

But not this film. In the end, it was even more intense than I expected.

A good Story, and a good Directing !!!!

I know nothing is original anymore but seriously I guess people assume people are too old to remember there was a movie like this condensed into 25m on a show called The Twilight Zone. I guess they wanted to rehash for a newer generation who dlbarely even know what a poloroid is.

Der Sinn und die Geschichte des Filmes war gut! Aber das ,,Monster,, war a Scheißdreg.
