There is one main plot and a tiny sub-plot in this installment of "The Paper Chase". The main plot is about a first year student named Williamson who is not handling all the pressure and demands well. When he tries to turn in a paper late but it is rejected (after all, it is the policy of the law school not to accept late papers), he attacks the professor and slugs the guy! Oddly, Kingsfield pushes the victim to hold back on prosecuting the young man and Tom Ford pushes to appeal the school's decision...citing that Williamson was under mental duress.

The second plot is slight and it's about the legally separated Rose going on her first date in decades....and it's the father of one of her fellow first year students!

I think the reason I was not a fan of this episode might be related to my having been a victim of assault on several occasions. Hearing a lot of empathy for the attacker and just about none for the professor made me mad...and didn't make a lot of sense. As a result of this odd view, the episode seemed weak.
