To all the people familiar with Karl, from his dealings with a certain Mr Gervais & Mr Merchant, you probably wont need much of an intro on what to expect from Karl. To all the non believers or Karl virgins, it is really quite difficult to explain just how good the show is. It is basically just a normal guy being put into strange situations & putting his own thoughts out there, but Karl being Karl, it is these thoughts which make the show. The show is 3 episodes in so far & it's been superb, what i like about this series quite a lot, is that we are finally seeing a part of Karl hidden previously. Now he is the master of his own destiny so to speak in this one, he seems to be able to enjoy & appreciate the experiences & it really shows through on screen. Two examples of this, the dancing clown part & when he found 2 pizzas in the bin.

It really is a great show which as plenty of laughs. Well worth anyones time.

This show is even better than Karl's last one. The insights are wonderful to watch as they unfold - evolve - grow. I loved his last series (An Idiot Abroad), with all the comedy. Karl has grown out of his distaste of all things foreign, not quite embraced those cultural differences, yet shows his courage to not only seek to understand the culture, explore the differences - more than that, through his experience - he attempts to apply his brand of practical culture in order to better understand those cultures around him. We all do it - but in his not so eloquent style, he helps us all work our way through it as he shows us how it could be done.

What this series does is take it to the next level, to give it that philosophical advantage, without missing the whole point - life and all the things we do are weird, wonderful, and most of all (most of the time) - funny. Great job and I expect it will continue with great success. Kudos.

It was funny when Ricky made him go do stuff on his own, and then when he went around the world with Warwick Davis it was just sad. Now Karl is back out on his own, but this time he is on a search for life's meanings. Karl is so honest, and uncensored, that you can only love him. If you enjoyed either of the first two shows, then this will be your fav. If you have never seen one of Karl's adventures, or even seen him with Ricky Gervais, then you need to treat yourself, and check out The Moaning of life. This is Karl actually trying, and it makes such a difference, seeing Karl actually care because these were plans that he has been allowed to be involved in. You will laugh, and cry, and titter like a Geisha. If you want to know what to watch, then the answer is very clear, there are only four episodes, and you will be rewarded in each.

If you are a fan of The Idiot Abroad Series (Named Ironically, I believe) you would absolutely know what you are getting into. It's the Great Karl with his artistic, toned down, humble, crazy and underdog qualities. If you are unaware of Karl and his work I would say you would end up liking him. In this Series titled the Moaning of Life Karl sets out to find the meaning of life while moaning (I guess with Ricky and Steve's absence a little less) about it.

Karl explores throughout the series about Marriage, Happiness, Reproduction, Money and Death. He kind of in a beautiful way express the point that all human lives are usually lived in a state of, functional nihilism. That in fact Very few of us believe that human life is devoid of all meaning and that all we should do is answer to our base urges and fulfill our basic desires and just live on about do your job (As in Karl's own words). And he also points out the fact that most of us act as if we believe that. Like they could all like, contribute to cancer research or write a novel or puzzle through quantum mechanics or plant trees or fight wild fires or harvest food for the poor. But they don't usually do any of that stuff. Most of them spend their free time by, like, watching television, playing video games, or searching for happiness and meaning of life etc.., To people who might think just from the trailer, reviews and summary that this is boring Travel Documentary. I will put it simple, it is not. It's a bloke from England going around the world trying to find the meaning of life in the most funniest ways possible, presenting us with the out of the norm view from different culture and people. The funny aspect of the Series is the highlight and I guess that's why it works. You laugh, you cringe, you envy, you moan, you cry and most importantly you think.

One of the best shows I've seen. Karl is interesting, insightful, funny and witty. He is the kind of guy I would like to have a beer with and shoot the Sh#t. Keep up the good work. Not sure what else can be said about the show, other than I like it and now I can't post this until I come up with ten lines minimum that I must fill with meaningless words. Anyhow I like the show and can't really say too much more. My hand is getting tired of typing because I have arthritis in one hand from too much use over the years. I did buy one of Karl's books, this was entitled "To Slap a Jelly Fish", Karl put to pen his many very funny thoughts. The book was mainly about his childhood and the places he visited.

This is a great and refreshing followup of 'An Idiot Abroad', a documentary style travel show through an unfiltered angle via Karl reflecting (aka whinging) on culture shock and his new confounding environment, and challenging tasks or pranks, always planned by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, with the sole aim of catapulting Karl out of his comfort zone. Physical shtick and hilarity ensues, which would often times lead Karl to ponder philosophically aloud.

This time, Karl flies more solo as he investigates life's big questions through the lens of different cultures. He takes his experience as a seasoned traveler and applies it to age-old conundrums like marriage, happiness, money. In the first episode on marriage, he experiences an Indian wedding as a groom assistant, he signs up for pheromone dating, he visits Las Vegas and offers his own satirical take on quickie weddings.

I think this is an accessible and humorous pop-culture approach to philosophy or anthropology. Compared An Idiot Abroad, his unapologetic and blunt observations (unavoidable for anyone when faced with unusual human tricks like body modification), stem from earnest and genuine childlike curiosity, rather than mean spirited, or even ethnocentric or chauvinistic compared to the earlier episodes of An Idiot Abroad; maybe travel really did broaden his mind. At the end of the day, he's stating the obvious to the tune of observational comedy (paraphrasing: "he's got wife and kids whose house has no roof, and they're spending all this time running to catch a wooden ball!").

One noticeably welcome improvement over An Idiot Abroad: there's less deer-in-the-headlights moments, and more going-along-blending-in-the- crowd attitude. This time he seems more game to be part of experiment rather than a spectator taken hostage. Definitely more enjoyable to watch.

After watching "An Idiot Abroad", I wanted to see more of Karl's adventures, so I binge-watched "The Moaning of Life" in one afternoon and I gotta tell you - it's even better than what I've expected. In this series, Karl explores five important aspects of life (marriage, happiness, kids, vocation & money and death) as they are dealt with in different cultural contexts. Karl is a bit more relaxed and in a better mood than during the filming of AIA, since he decided where to go, who to meet and what to do. This is a sort of popular anthropology as it is amusing, educational and philosophical at the same time. I share some of Karl's views on marriage and children, so it was fun to watch his musings. It seemed to me that I would probably experience those situations in a similar way as Karl. Too bad that there are only five episodes, I would really like to see more of Karl.

I was a big fan of the Idiot Abroad series and was super thrilled to see that Karl is back. This time he is fumbling his way around the world learning about different cultural rites of passage like marriage. I enjoy how Karl views the world. He is unabashedly himself and is naturally hilarious. He questions why we do things like have a big marriage ceremony - is it really necessary? What is the point of pomp and circumstance for merely a moment in time? Karl is a philosopher of this generation. No doubt about it. I'm a huge fan and appreciate him in all his cranky glory. Ricky Gervais was a genius in discovering Karl and introducing him to the world. He truly is unique in today's very artificial culture of celebrity fandom. Karl cuts through the bs and says what a lot of us are thinking.

I love me some Karl, I thought he was the best part of Derek, and in an Idiot Abroad he was truly remarkable and a breath of fresh air in the overdone travel show genre. But something was missing here in the Moaning of Life and after I watched the entire series I realized Ricky Gervais was 100% correct when he said Karl is at his best when he is stuck in the corner getting poked with a stick. I didn't even care too much for Ricky or Stephen in an Idiot Abroad, I thought they could have shown more compassion for Karl and his misadventures once in awhile. But now I have to admit they are vital for the success of this type of program with Karl. Karl needs his anti-karl as much as superman needs bizarro superman to make a truly epic show. Might be painful, might be uncomfortable at times, but well worth it for the insight that only comes in those circumstances where Karl excels. An Idiot Abroad felt like a true adventure with Karl, this not so much.

Well as that summary says this is officially my first ever (of many i hope) review on something on IMDb.com and boy what an honor it is to review this wonderful mans work! I think this is one fantastic show BOTH seasons so far are so hilarious and had both me and my partner literally crying with laughter. I think its amazing how he voices his opinions in a funny and yet serious way and is still able to keep a straight face (most the time! ha ha)

I love how he goes into details with things (especially season one) in each episode because it gives us - the people who haven't had children or got married etc - a good sight on what it COULD be like etc to have babies, get married, be rich, be poor etc (i'm hoping this isn't a spoiler as I've not actually said what happens)

I am hoping he carries on to do more seasons for this show, not sure what he can do for each season but hey, i'm pretty sure he will think of something.

I could go on and write about Karl Pilkington forever but i shall leave it at that as i have wrote about what i think of this show! Again it was an honor, what a wonderful, brilliant and funny man! Keep up the amazing work Karl! =)

An idiot is bored with the meaninglessness of his existence and seeks to broaden his horizons in an attempt to become a better man. PSYCH! It's actually about a little roundy-headed, chimp-like Manch moron who is being paid handsomely to travel the world and seek out freakishly happy freaks in an attempt to understand why they seem so much happier than him. For example, the first episode sees Karl probing the human compulsion to get married. He's been in a relationship with the same woman for half his life and they've never tied the knot because he doesn't see the point. Can anyone in the world possibly change his outlook on what he's always considered to be the myth of so-called "Wedded Bliss"?

The only reason Karl Pilkington has agreed to make this "Travel Mockumentary", that could very vaguely be referred to as "An Idiot Abroad Series 4", is because those brilliant "bullies" (aka Ricky Gervais & Stephen Merchant) are no longer at the helm. They have absolutely no say in where he goes or what he does. Karl is finally in charge of his own itinerary... and there's no Dwarf-For-Hire tagging along to act as a "hindrance" (No offense Warwick). This means that if Karl should find himself in a lacklustre location and/or a sticky situation, he has no one to blame but himself. LET THE FUN BEGIN!

How's my review? Call 1800 DROP OUT :p Here, have a few more quotation marks and misplaced commas ",",", :D

Hilariously funny sometimes, other times it's down right weird, like his seeming obsession with sitting on the toilet. However every now and again he hits the nail right on the head and says things that are bang-on right. Only he is one of a very small minority who actually has the guts to say it. Good on him !!! I wish a few more people had the guts to stand up and speak up against those people who abuse their positions of power and their money to keep the unfair status quo.

This spin off of An Idiot Abroad is pure genius. I have laughed and cried (with laughter). Karl is pure genius in this series that is way too short.

Is Karl Pilkington a great actor or is he really the fool portrayed in the TV shows, 'An Idiot Abroad' and 'The Moaning of Life'? The question has been asked many times and, sad to say, the answer is that it is not an act. Ricky Gervais has explained on several occasions that Karl is, "just being himself". If you take a look at Karl's interviews, these confirm the case; same accent, same opinions, same Karl. He is uneducated and ill-informed (he has no tertiary education at all and didn't succeed as a student, even at secondary school). Though occasional displays of opinionated ignorance and stunning stupidity may be amusing for a while, they become tedious and lose their entertainment value very quickly. After all, we are laughing at Karl, not with him. Karl's success is due mainly to the fact that he enables very stupid people to feel comfortable in their ignorance and the marginally less stupid to feel superior.
