It is fourteen months since Jax, Clay, Tig, Bobby, Juice and Happy went to jail on federal gun charges. Jimmy and Stahl are both dead, murdered by Chibs and Opie. Tara has discovered John's love letters to Maureen, hidden by Maureen in Jax's belongings before he left Northern Ireland, in which John states he knows Clay and Gemma are plotting his death. Miles and Kozik have been patched into SAMCRO. However, upon their release, the Sons find Charming a drastically changed place. Jacob is now mayor, and his plans for a huge housing estate, Charming Heights, are pressing ahead, with Oswald handling construction. The San Joaquin Sheriff has absorbed Charming PD, with Unser retiring, and the town now under the jurisdiction of Lt. Eli Roosevelt, someone with no love for SAMCRO. Behind the scenes, the Sons are also targeted by AUSA Lincoln Potter, who is fully aware of their new distribution deal with the Real IRA, and their involvement in the deaths of both Jimmy and Stahl. In a conversation between Clay (Ron Perlman) and Unser (Dayton Callie), Clay refers to the western hero Wild Bill Hickok. Dayton Callie played Wild Bill Hickok's assistant and best friend, Charlie Utter, in the series Deadwood (2004).
Dave Kushner can be seen as the bald headed handle bar moustached guitarist in the wedding band. He's fame comes from being the rythum guitarist for Velvet Revolver. He also cowrote and preformed much of the soundtrack to the series included the theme song "This Life."
When the third season ended Sons of Anarchy: NS (2010) Jax, Juice, Tigg, Happy, Bobby, and Clay all got arrested each one had on their cuts. When the fourth season started Jax, Juice, Tigg, Happy, Bobby, and Clay all got released from Stockton they did not have their cuts. The rest of the members of SAMCRO who picked up Jax, Juice, Tigg, Happy, Bobby, and Clay had their cuts and gave their cuts to them when they got released.
