The idea for Funland, as it was originally called, came from a spontaneous trip Chris Deighton (Director) and Richard Perry (Producer) took to Alton Towers Theme Park in the UK. Whilst queuing for one of the rides (The Runaway Mine Train) they became transfixed on the ride operator, who without any irony sounded like he hated his life as he asked the customers if they wanted another go. "You do" he would reply, the half arsed applause would be followed by "Ok then, Choo Choo". The concept for the show was then developed into an idea for a TV series over the next couple of years until finally the two of them decided to re-work it as a feature film.
