The Apotheoses of Lacspor

The Apotheoses of Lacspor

This movie is about 3 Americans traveling south to Panama on motorcycles with a very tight budget without time limits. No specific reason for their travels, the just wanted to do some inexpensive traveling. Their adventures took them from skiing to snorkeling for their dinner, with some time left over for women chasing.

They sure had a good time riding with all their adventures, and I had a great time watching the movie as I felt that I was living their adventure. Recommended. Well sorry, I suck at movie reviews. There was none for this movie so anything is better then nothing. I'm really good at engineering.

This movie is great for sitting back and enjoying the good ole days...of the early 1970s. Less regulation led to more fun with less restrictions. And these three guys did it the way many guys would want to do it, on motorcycles...going where they want to go, driving as far as they feel like it and enjoying the view along the way.

They head south and take time enjoying the view. There are lots of great times, riding through the countryside on bikes, diving for dinner on the beach, bull fighting, bike racing, etc.

I wish more people had thought ahead and documented trips like this. Today, you graduate high-school, then go to college, then immediately start work on your career...for forty years. These guys stopped along the way for a great vacation holiday and filmed the whole thing. Take some time off one evening and enjoy the view!!

I have really enjoyed watching and re-watching this movie, which I would describe more as "mockumentary" than documentary, with some well-concealed but surprisingly high production values.

The movie captures some of the social phenomena and changes that were sweeping the country in the early '70s, not the least of them the demise of the four-stroke British dinosaurs which yielded in the marketplace to light, reliable 2-strokes from Japan. The short scene where Bobby Garcia brushes his teeth while describing the previous night's adventures is a classic. "Muy Bueno."

Anyone who ever considered a motorcycle trip to Mexico, or who came of age during the '60s and '70s will love this movie.

There is a cognitive disconnect between the rawboned redneck Don Marshall who stars in the movie and the Don Marshall whose photo appears on his IMDb page. Did he really do the movie in whiteface? If so, someone should have been mentioned for an Oscar for makeup. Or is there some kind of inside joke here?

I stumbled across this on Xfinity free movies....this film was made after Easy Rider and is nothing like it. but....I enjoyed the relaxed way that it was produced and voiced over later. They start out on what look like BSA 250 Starfire single cylinder motorcycles, or Triumph Trophy 250 models, painted metal flake colors...and at the beginning, they fall down a lot, and I wonder just how far they will make it before breaking... it turns out they trade them in for new Kawasaki 175cc ? motorcycles before crossing over to Mexico. There is some classic nudity,(boy & girl, totally nude riding motorcycle through the river), free love in a commune, dope smoking, women chasing through out the film, but all in fun, I mean it WAS 1971 , after all. good times, good times. Considering the era, I think the cinematography was great, 16mm ?, and the time spent setting up the various shots. This is easy to watch while surfing the net, like I just did.

Cycles South is one of the greatest motorcycle adventure movies. On a cold winter night, while your motorcycle is parked in the garage, put in Cycles South and watch the freedom blow through your hair. They had now worries, no food, little money and little gas. They ride small one-lung motorcycles everywhere. Superior riding and stunt work. They pick up chicks, go fishing, drinking, camping, riding, and generally have fun. Great special effects! This is the type of movie that inspired Easy Rider. Swinedog

I don't recommend that anyone pass up other activities, or go out of the way, to watch this movie. But if you've got nothing better to do, it passes the time with some scenery. Like today, it is showing on THIS network, and there is nothing I want to see on any other channel. I have watched it before, and after seeing it both ways, I recommend leaving the sound on "mute". This Don Murray is not witty or wry or interesting as he thinks he is, and his commentary is quite an aggravation, and I don't think I could listen to it another time. Watching without sound, you might wonder what is happening, but there is nothing happening that means anything, there is no plot, and he is just making smart alec remarks in voice over, along with some corny sound effects. He seems to think it is "kool" to ridicule and put down his buddies. Maybe just "unmute" when there are other people on the screen along the way. I'm an old man who just sits around watching over-the-air television nowadays, but I had a Yamaha Enduro 360 back in the early 70's, and I went on some similar adventures. On one vacation from the refinery, a buddy and I rode as far as you can go on North Padre Island, down to the Mansfield Cut. We quickly learned that we had to ride on the wet sand where the surf lapped the shore to stay upright. It was October, so we had that part of the world all to ourselves, but it was still warm enough in the early afternoons to go skinny-dipping in the Gulf. For the person on the forums for this movie who keeps saying that Don Marshall must be in white-face. There is more than one person in the world named Don Marshall. I could not reply to that on the forums because they ask for either my credit card number or cell phone number, and I don't put such identity information on the internet.
