Eighteen-year-old Jim Adams' life comes to a crossroads upon discovering his girlfriend, Amy, is pregnant. Fourteen years later, Jim and his daughter Jessie are put in an awkward position when Amy moves to Atlanta to pursue a job. Not wanting to relocate Jessie in the middle of high school, Amy decides the best thing would be for the girl to stay, even if it means living with Jim. The title "Atlanta" originated from a Stone Temple Pilot song of the same name. Though the song was used in early versions of the film, its scene was eventually cut.

The first public screening of the film was March 28, 2004 at Parmer Cinema in Grantham, Pennsylvania. The show was free admission, and attendance was so high that the theater needed to bring in extra seating to accommodate the crowd.

Budget demands would allow for only one prop gun, so all scenes involving gun violence were structured to never include two characters firing at the same time. This way, one gun could be swapped between characters when the camera angle changed.

The film was shot on Sony TRVs without the use of boom mics.

Nate's heroin-induced fantasy (shot in Pittsburgh's Point State Park) was not written to include fireworks. However, during shooting, a Pittsburgh Pirates' baseball game set off fireworks across the river, and that take made the final cut.

I saw this film at its Harrisburg premiere in 2004. It was a bit too long and had a lot of rough edges, but for a film with virtually no budget and no paid cast or crew, I think it showed some potential. Matt Lorenz was pretty decent in the main role, and his scenes with Nellie Barnett were some of the high points. Some of the other actors were pretty amateurish, though. I was surprised to hear it got into the New York IFP, considering it's low-budget aspects, but I'm glad because it shows a film festival FINALLY acknowledging films that are independent and not cheap Hollywood productions. It'll be interesting to see if the guys involved with this show up on the radar with something bigger in the future.
