Harikishan saves the life of his employer, Jagjit Singh alias JJ, only to receive a huge wage increase. All excited; Harikishan agrees to change his name to Harry and successfully carry out any task executed to him. He then realize he is indulging himself in illegal activities only to confront his boss for an explanation where-by he is told that his mother is held captive in order to guarantee his full cooperation. Under these circumstances; Harry must now devise ways to rescue his mother and save himself from being arrested by the police.

After Laawaris (1981), Prakash Mehra decided he wanted to move on to something more intense for Amitabh Bachchan and wrote Zindagi Ek Juaa. The financiers and producers all rejected the script as the film was too bold and serious for that time. So Prakash later moved on to Namak Halaal (1982), as it was comedy and would work better for mainstream cinema.

The original title of the film was " Juaa".

The film was previously also titled "Zindagi Ka Juaa".

After Jadugar Prakash Mehra made this film and the film got delayed.

The very well picturised song, sung very energic by Asha Bhosle was shot, when Anil Kapoor and Madhuri had just returned from Kenya, from the shooting of Khel.

Anil Kapoor and Prakash Mehra fought thru put the making of the film. Anil wanted to walk out of the film a few days into shooting the movie. Prakash Mehra convinced him to stay on.But he would regret this decision as he kept clashing with Prakash.

Bappi Lahiri composed a new version of the song "Dil To Dil Hain" for his album Bappi Magic - The Asli Baap Mix.

About 2 years before Zindagi Ek Juua was launched, Anil Kapoor had worked with Prakash Mehra Production in Chameli Ki Shaadi which was directed by Basu Chatterjee. So Zindagi Ek Juua was the second film of Prakash Mehra with Anil Kapoor. In the year 1987/88, at that time, both of them, were to work toghether in a film tittled Dhan Dahej, but the film was shelved.

Prakash Mehra accused Anil Kapoor of delaying the film. Prakash felt Anil was giving preference to his home production Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja. Anil stated to the media that Prakash Mehra took shooting dates for September 1990, but changed his mind and wanted Anil to start shooting immediately. This put Anil in a limbo since he was already busy with other films.

Many characters' names in the movie are the actors' real name, such as Suresh Oberoi is called Suresh, Mangal Dhillon is called Mangal and Shakti Kapoor is called Shakti. Even Swapna is named Sapna.

Farha stated Prakash Mehra had promised her the film but later backed out. She claimed that Madhuri and Rikku played dirty by convincing Prakash Mehra to sign Madhuri instead. Farha was angry about this and never forgave Madhuri .

Prakash Mehra bashed Rikku Rakesh Nath in the media . He blamed him for the film's delay. He accused RIkku of playing games with Anil's dates. Rikku would lie and say Anil was busy and unavailable. Then make Prakash Mehra run around for dates. This would go on for months

Anil Kapoor had broke his leg causing the film to be delayed for 3 months. But when he returned he kept giving his dates to other producers. Mehra stated that he gave all his new dates to Lamhe,which was unfair of him to do.Mehra also went on to say that Boney Kapoor used 400 shifts for his film. This angered Mehra as he felt he couldve made 6 movies with Anil in that many shifts . Mehra went on to state that Madhuri did not have a mind of her own and needed to ask Rikku Rakesh Nath before she said or did anything. The word going around the film industry was that Anil Kapoor's date hassles gave Vinod Mehra a heart attack. Prakash Mehra stated Anil and his brother have something against Mehra's of the industry and probably next might be his (Prakash Mehra)t urn after Vinod Mehra.

In retaliation to Prakash Mehra war of words against Anil Kapoor,Boney Kapoor decided to set the record straight. He stated though he respected Prakash Mehra, he had a loose tongue and had a habit of saying hateful things against his actors. He listed Amitabh,Vinod Khanna and Aditya Pancholi as examples. Boney stated he had committed to Lamhe before Zindagi Ek Juaa. Boney stated his loyalties were with Yash because Anil Kapoor got his first big break with Mashaal. He went on to state so many times Anil reported to the shooting of the film only to find Prakash Mehra absent. Most of the time his assistants were taking shots. Mehra would always arrive at 5 pm.
