The high rating lead me to watch this disaster, which is seems like it was falsely reviewed to get people to watch. The problem with this film is the story seems to drift and fail to connect cohesively. The ridiculous dialogue and third rate acting creates no chemistry between the characters or atmosphere, especially in the build up to those dramatic encounters between humans and the alien; the shock moments of the alien jumping out at the astronauts were predictable. The worst part of this sad movie is that it isn't bad enough to be a fun bad movie.

The fanboi/shill reviews, or the poor acting.

I am unsure who figured these people, who acted in the past together, could still act ...together and succeed. The show is a modern B. Not that a B movie is bad.

The acting was rigid, forced and, at times, off key. The CGI was bad when ever the color red or orange was needed it seems ;)

If you are a Star Trek cast fan, there will be no deterring you from seeing this. If you are a sucker for IMDB ratings, do not be fooled, this rating is falsly inflated. The movie rating will balance out in the 4.2-5.0 range

If I could give it a -10, I'd complain I couldn't give it a -11.

Unbelievable bad script and acting (as in none). Homeworld 1 had better graphics, heck, I'm pretty sure Half Life 1 will hold up to this. It may have the tag "sci-fi", but I'm voting for IMDB to add a "sci-cry" tag, though Half Life 3 may be released sooner then that happening...

Edit; Atleast the keyboard warriors are telling the truth, the movie really sucks.

I don't know why there were good reviews/ratings for this movie. A total waste of time. Sorry to be harsh, but it is what it is. Bad sfx, cgi, storyline and poor acting. Do yourself a favor and pass on this one.

Too many negative reviews and poor ratings don't make this movie that bad. In fact I quite enjoyed it. The movie moves at an acceptable pace, the story is fine and the acting is okay.

It looks like this is another film that I rate higher than what the majority viewers think. Usually it is the other way around. I consider this movie good enough to make it very watchable and pleasant to view. It fits perfectly in the sci-fi genre.

For a movie made on a shoestring it is an admirable result.

This movie casts several members of the Star Trek family. Manu Intyrami (Icheb, Star Trek Voyager), Tim Russ (Tuvok, Star Trek Voyager, Star Trek The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine), Arman Schimerman (Quark, Deep Space Nine), Martina Sirtis (Counselor Deanna Troi, Start Trek The Next Generation, Star Trek Enterprise, First Contact, Star Trek Generations and 4 other Star Trek movies), Hana Hatae (Deep Space Nine, Star Trek The Next Generation, the daughter of transporter Chief Miles O'Brien) and Doug Jones from the upcoming series Star Trek Discovery. The combination of these actors as well as the other main character actors blends together very well. Although the plot does follow the same premise as the "Aliens" movies, these actors do bring their own distinct version of their characters to this movie. The CGI effects are very good and are convincing to the viewer. Some of the plot lines do tend to become slow at times, but the action scenes are very realistic. Being a Star Trek fan from the very beginning, I was impressed to see all the incredible talent these actors brought to this movie. To see these Star Trek actors in different roles was a nice change and they played their roles extremely well. I would add this movie to my Sci Fi collection.

Dont watch this scrap and never always watch a movie after deciding from positive reviews alone as it could be from the movie crew themselves.

Science fiction doesn't mean showing something which is not science in the name of science.

*Worst CGI.

1. In deep space a star ship blasts burns with yellow flame like it is burning in the Earth atmosphere.

2. 2 persons just casually jump out of one space pod into another damaged space pod and return back in the same way.. with precision without any support attached to them or support in the suit they're wearing.

3. Alien shown is a "still born starship troopers spider"

I wish to have rating option in minus values for movies like this

According to others who have reviewed this film anyone who gives this movie a high rating is fake and/or a moron. I assure you, I am a real person who actually watched the entire movie. As to whether or not I am a moron, well, that's subjective. I found the story interesting, and while none of the characters really drew me in, I did want to know what was going to happen next. Others complained about the CGI elements, but personally I didn't really notice that. I watched it to be entertained and I was.

Some people are rating this a 1. To get a 1, there needs to be so much wrong with it that you regret watching it. While this movie is not of the super high CGI quality like many modern movies, people (particularly those haters) need to remember where this movie came from. I don't know for certain, but I believe it was crowd/fan funded and developed. Therefore it didn't have the backing of major motion movies. Sure the acting was a little stiff in parts, but the story was fine and was certainly NOT The worst movie I have ever seen. Those giving it 1 probably didn't watch it.

Even with my rusty english (my apologies in advance) I decided to spend 5 minutes to right something I believe is important. Oh, the movie.....it is just horrible. It is real bad. It dont deserves to be called a "movie". But what it worries me are the previous 10 starts reviews. I watched the movie because of the existence of such reviews. We know that sometimes a movie without good marketing and low budget can be very good. This is why people that love sci-fy genre is hunting movies like this one. You feel betrayed when this happens. I dont know what to do or suggest about it, honestly, but trolls making fake positive reviews just to promote a movie that should not be seen not even for the ones who made it? come on...that is too much. Imdb is a serious portal. Me and many people come here to read and/or write about movies. We should not allow these "fakes" to contaminate it.

What do you get when you combine five Star Trek alumni, a hackneyed script and overtones of Hitchcock?

It's not as good as one might think...

The film is not worth the effort, it might have stood a chance in 1987 but not now, audiences are more aware, what is often considered by the producers to be cutting edge graphics and effects are often seen by the audience as 'meh'.

Bad things -

A script with the ending obvious within 15 minutes Actors phoning it in Poor attempt at social conscience Effects that would have been poor for TNG

Good things Decent camera work and editing

Overall, a sub-par episode of Star Trek: TNG that was 60 minutes too long.

Next.

The name of Marina Sirtis is immediately associated to the character Counselor Deanna Troi, from "Star Trek: The Next Generation". The cast has other names from Star Trek series. With this nostalgia and expectation of a good sci-fi, the unwary viewer may watch "5th Passenger" like I did. Unfortunately, the story is awful and the screenplay is a mess with a confused conclusion. My vote is two.

The surprising thing with this film is the number of actors whom I recognize from other projects and know to be perfectly competent actors, so the utterly abysmal acting is hard to account for. If you stick with it you'll see cameos from across the spectrum of the Star Trek franchise (regulars and notable one-timers), and the plot itself feels like a rejected Star Trek script rescued from the bin, and if this had been a fan-made film to which these actors were lending their faces for the sake of their fans (wouldn't be the first time), then I could understand and would be more than willing to forgive the amateur nature of the production, directing... everything. But that doesn't seem to be the case.

I was a part of getting this film made and unlike some artists I can be honest about my own art. This is a B-Movie, but as B Movies go it is top notch. B-Movies get there name for many reasons, in our case, we were "B" for broke. We had almost no budget at all. Yet talented people banded together and did what they could with next to nothing but love for a cool little story. I don't often get excited reading screenplays by people who have never made a film before, but this screenplay got me to call a bunch of talented friends together to work for next to nothing and take a shot on something that had no shot to begin with. Only a good story can do that to people. This movie deserves to be seen because people gave their all when they had nothing to gain to get this on the screen. If we would have had millions it would Star an A-lister or two and the VFX would be flawless. So, I say to you movie lovers, lovers of science fiction. Watch this film knowing thousands were spent and lives were put on hold to tell this story on the screen. Grade this film knowing it's incredibly low budget and you too may give this film a ten. I made it, so I know EXACTLY where and when we could have done better, and I fairly give it a six. Those of you with your noses in the air, and your proud middle fingers waiving number "1 Star" ratings, I would like you to put your life on hold. Start by writing a screenplay, then raise barely enough money to pay anyone a minimum wage, find a place to shoot, and cameras lights and equipment and do better then 5th Passenger before you take yourself seriously as a film "critic." We did OK, and the film is worth watching if you truly like movies. If you only enjoy 40-200 million dollar blockbusters, then this isn't for you. Everyone else, enjoy the ride, it's a little cramped, and tight in here, this spaceship has one too many passengers aboard. Which one deserves to go? Enjoy your popcorn and enjoy a movie made by people who truly LOVE movies. We know, we're trying to make magic daily, not crush it beneath our egotistical toes. Trolls don't rate things a ten, they rate things a one. Thanks for the tens you REAL people. I'm guessing you have REAL LOVE for this little film. I'm still Capitol B broke and making movies, because I have REAL LOVE for all of you.

I signed up on IMDb to give my own two cents. I should state that my expectations of the film weren't high. I was very excited to support an independent effort from actors that I've loved, but I also know that independent films can also come out a little rough. Thankfully, 5th Passenger overcomes what rough edges it may have with interesting ideas, cultivated into good story telling, and held together with a good cast and framing. Considering the film was done on a budget too small for its genre, it does seem to balance what down points it has. At first, the memory recovery machine used seems a little gimmicky for a plot device, but offers some very interesting visuals and helps build a good amount of tension (as well as some breaks) throughout the film. There are some moments on film where it feels like some sort of filter was applied to hide some green screen effects that were too apparent - these few spots are the only places I feel the movie suffers from anything visually. There was a twist that I thought was apparent from early in the movie, but clever elements kept being thrown in that kept me guessing what was really going on. Occasionally, the dialogue seems a little awkward and maybe even forced. This isn't necessarily a bad thing though, as it also fits with the natural and very real moments the characters have with each other. Life isn't filled with perfectly timed thunder for dramatic effect. The unsure hesitation and pauses were, in my opinion, the highlight of the acting. Such small details make the interactions so intimately real. Near the climax of the movie, there are a couple of times when there are sudden occurrences, and the other characters seem to accept it without questioning. I know sometimes you need to have a quick pace, or need to have little reaction from some or all of the characters. It's possible that the right camera angles and editing can accomplish this, but I have no education on film, so I wouldn't want to posture too much on the subject. Either way, it's a brief if albeit chaotic transition, that also adds to the film in its own way. Overall, this is a solid independent film that was worth my money and more. I was absolutely thrilled that I could support artists I respect, and find a film I very much enjoyed. I've seen Big-budget movies that were worse in every aspect. This is a "small-time" movie, and did some amazing work on a small budget, I don't believe it deserves the harsh reviews it's been getting. I'd recommend this movie to any fan of sci-fi, horror, psychological thrillers, or anyone looking for an hour and a half of entertainment. A ride worth taking for any passenger.

Boring. Un-interesting. Useless. Time-waster. Mediocre/bad CGI. Green screen, hi, i can see you! Bad editing; shots are inconsistent with previous ones (some blantant). No soundtrack, just some sounds. The end credits now say it was kickstarted. Ok. Still, its kinda bad.

I will add though, the idea of the plot is interesting, if only it had been better executed.

5th Passenger is not your ordinary sci-fi thriller, which is great, because I usually don't go for that. This film made me think. So many stories explore distopian futures, but with so much subtlety, poignancy, and endearing character development, that stabs so deeply at class and gender inequality. Special effects were transporting. The music was perfect. And how refreshing it is to see strong women being real. The star of the movie is someone to watch for, I can't wait to see her next movie!!! Hopefully, this is just a prequel... that is all I will say, because the ending leaves us with some interesting possibilities.

I liked the acting for the most part in this film and there was a very nice surprise twist at the end that I didn't anticipate. It's always good when I can't predict how the film will end. Also the visual effects were very good, as was sound design. Well done!

Overall a good independent film. The story was interesting and had some plot twists that weren't expected. It was refreshing to see a strong female lead and I was impressed with the role women played throughout. I loved the costume design and overall direction of the film. If you come in with expectations of this being a sci-fi feature film you're going to be disappointed with the graphics. But if you're looking for a refreshing story and influential female characters this is a good watch.

A few minutes in, I was wondering why I was even watching, and I came here to read the reviews. I agreed with the people who wanted to give it negative stars. But for some reason, I didn't stop watching. The first 10 minutes or so are bad. Really, really bad. The acting was bad, the writing was worse, science was poor, and the political commentary on current events served no cinematic purpose. I had no complaints about the spaceship CGI.

After the first 10 minutes, it started picking up. The next ~50 minutes was decent. Nothing special, but not terrible.

The last 20 minutes or so were poor. Not bad, but below average. This is where the CGI took a bad turn, and the it looks like someone finished writing the script by recycling scenes and cliches from other movies. Even the trick ending was recycled, and if you didn't see it coming, I hope it is because you tuned out during the crappy start, and not because you missed the foreshadowing they applied with a sledgehammer. I guess you could argue that there was a second trick, but to me it looked like that got tacked on to make the ending artificially ambiguous. I think the movie would have been better served if they had committed to one "true" version and stuck with it.

Overall, I give it 4 out of ten. On my scale, movies between roughly 3 and 7 are watchable once. I've seen, and enjoyed, worse movies, but there are plenty of better options out there.

I found the twist at the end very refreshing, the CGI and music were quite ok, the premise very well made. At times I was thinking: odd the attacks always happen when she is alone... at the end it is all revealed. I expected a sci-fi, so the worse part for me is how poorly done are the pod to pod jumps in zero gravity, a bit more science rigor would have worked for me. I also didn't expect a watertight script. Of course the characters have nearly no depth, but that was to be expected. The captain of the rescue ship was over-acted for my taste, Manu kept doing his funny comments like in ST:VOY which was bittersweet, the rest did well, they convinced me enough. Not a disappointment because I knew what I was getting into, it was good to be entretained by these actors together again simply telling me a good story on shoe-string budget.

Did I enjoy it? Yes!

Did it entertain me? Yes!

The VFX are standard, the sets are standard, but the writing and characters were excellent and well defined. Great twist at the end. The main girl was good,... and she is surrounded by Star Trek Royalty. Armin Shimmerman steals the film a bit. Didn't think much of some of the actors, as their egos clearly got in the way, but the rest of the cast out-shines them. I would like to see more from this team of producers. A worthy story!
