Ruth Ipince was cast in her first lead role in the film when director Alexis Ramirez saw her in a web series Tales From The Dark (2013) as the rape victim which gave her the role of Heather in Cycle (2016)
Brennan Scott's main interest in creating the script was the idea of a loop. Starting a story that may end the way it began. Mixing that with the ferocity of Black Swan (2010) and American Psycho (2000). What is real to the main character may not be reliable to the audience.
