Michael Bay's Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) Online
Driving through the backwoods of Texas, five youths pick up a traumatized hitchhiker, who shoots herself in their van. Shaken by the suicide, the group seeks help from the locals, but their situation becomes even more surreal when they knock on the door of a remote homestead. It's quickly apparent the residents are a family of inbred psychopaths, and the unlucky youths suddenly find themselves running for their lives. In hot pursuit is a disfigured, chainsaw-wielding cannibal known as Leatherface.

There's a homage to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) regarding each film's leading ladies Erin (2003) and Sally (original). In the remake, Erin pulls out a knife to unpick a lock. When asked where she got it from, she replies "from my brother." In the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Sally's brother Franklin is obsessed with his knife, and at one point in the film gives it to Sally. She never returns it.
A then-unknown John Larroquette provided the narration in the original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974). Despite becoming a distinguished actor in the years since, he happily agreed to reprise his role for the remake.
Erica Leerhsen screamed so loudly during her screen test that people in other parts of the building called the police to report that a woman was being attacked.
On his final day of shooting, Eric Balfour stripped down, threw his wardrobe back to the crew, and walked off the set only wearing a baseball cap.
During the scene in the van with R. Lee Ermey (The Sheriff) and Jonathan Tucker (Morgan), Tucker forced the gun down his throat in order to make himself vomit every take. If you watch carefully you can see him spit the vomit out of his mouth in the scene.
After learning about the remake, Andrew Bryniarski (Leatherface) went up to producer Michael Bay at a Christmas party and personally asked him for the role.
Pepper is the only one of the victims not to see or enter the Hewitt house.
Lauren German, who plays the Hitchhiker, originally auditioned for the role of Erin.
Daniel Pearl, cinematographer The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), reprised the position for this movie.
In the third movie of TCM that came out in 1990 there was supposed to be a scene where Leatherface takes off his mask, but to keep the R rating they had to cut it out. In this movie, that scene is re-shot and seen.
In the original script, the character Jedidiah was going to wear a Felix the Cat T-shirt throughout the movie. This was later scrapped because the copyright holders of Felix the Cat wouldn't allow it. However, the novelization of the movie features the character wearing the shirt. Also, Jedidiah was going to be killed by Leatherface by slicing his chainsaw through his back because he let Erin and Morgan go. This was later scrapped because the filmmakers thought it was too intense.
The only time we actually get to see Leatherface's "real" face.
Dolph Lundgren was first considered to play Leatherface, but he turned them down so he could spend more time with his family.
Banned in Ukraine by the Ministry of Culture.
The film was made into a haunted house at Universal's "Halloween Horror Nights" in both Florida and Hollywood Universal parks.
Erin's last name was supposed to be Hardesty, the same last name as lead character Sally (Marilyn Burns) from the original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974).
A deleted subplot detailed Erin being pregnant, which was why, when they went to Mexico, she didn't "drink the water" or "smoke the weed," as they talked about in the final cut.
In the original script, the Hitchhiker was 15-16 years old. The filmmakers later decided to changed her age to make her about the same age as the principal cast.
Gunnar Hansen was asked to play the role of the trucker in the end of the film.
The bumper sticker on Kemper's van reads: "Nothing is true / Everything is permitted," a reference to the movie's "Based on actual events" claims.
While the film's introduction and ending are tailored to appear to be based on a series of true events, the film's plot is a complete work of fiction. The film is inspired by the murderous acts of Ed Gein, a Wisconsin-based serial killer that was infamous for exhuming corpses as well as decorating his home with the body parts of his victims. Gein also confessed to wearing the tanned skin of women as a suit.
In 2002 Marilyn Manson was announced as the composer for this project. He later had to bow out due to conflicting schedules, though.
Film critic Roger Ebert gave this film a rare Zero stars rating.
The remake saw is a Husqvarna 359 with a 28" guide bar. These saws are made today and were not available in 1973 Texas.
Kirsten Dunst, Katie Holmes and Jessica Alba were considered to play Erin.
Evan Rachel Wood was considered for the role of the hitch hiker.
The severed head of Harry Jay Knowles from Ain't It Cool News can be seen in the basement of Leatherface's house.
Andrew Bryniarski (Leatherface) states: "In my estimation, Leatherface is like a beaten dog -- he was ostracized and ridiculed, and treated harshly by his peers. The psychological damage they inflicted was immense -- there's no chance for him." Terrence Evans (Uncle Monty), says, "I think there was a chance Thomas' life could have been different. But the teasing he suffered, coupled with a bad temper, and following Hoyt around like a puppy dog, left room for Hoyt to get absolute control."
To prepare for his role as Leatherface, Andrew Bryniarski ate a diet of brisket and white bread in order to get his weight to nearly 300 pounds.
The song "Suffocate" by industrial metal band Motograter appears for few second during Kemper's death, when Leatherface starts to undress the Kemper's corpse.
The van driven throughout is a 1968 Dodge A-108 Extended Wheelbase Van.
The character "Kemper" shares a name with American serial killer Edmund Kemper who murdered 10 people between 1964 and 1973.
Jessica Biel's outfit in the film is a tank top, bootcut jeans and boots. She thoroughly enjoyed wearing the outfit, especially the jeans.
Actress Marietta Marich (Luda May) came out of retirement in 2013 to film the 8 time international "Best Picture" award winning, suspense thriller House of Good and Evil (2013), as Mrs. Anderson, with Rae Olivier and Christian Oliver.
To avoid an NC-17 rating in the USA, the more graphic shots of Morgan's death were cut. The original version of the scene featured the shot of the chainsaw slicing into his crotch and then having intestines and blood falling out of him. The cut version cuts away when the chainsaw is about to cut him and totally cuts out the intestines falling from his body. The hitchhiker death scene was also cut severely. The original scene has her ear flying off of her head and blood and brain matter being more dark in color and more in amount flying out of her head.
Despite the title, only two people are seen being killed by a chainsaw.
Kemper's death was originally slightly more graphic: after Leatherface hits him in the back of the head with the sledgehammer, he drops to the floor gasping and convulsing with blood pouring out of his head. Pepper's death was also more graphic, originally Leatherface swipes the chainsaw down into her cutting into her stomach. In the final cut of the film the impact is off-screen(you only see Leatherface swipe the chainsaw down, and you hear it cutting into her, with feathers from her jacket floating in the air.
Some of the big plot changes made in the remake: 1. It is actually not mentioned nor implied that the family is cannibalist. One of the symbols of the TCM movies was the big dinner scene where all the family tries to eat their victims. 2. The whole family has changed. Now there are 7 members of the family, plus famous "grandpa" from the first four movies is not included here.
Andrew Bryniarski is the second tallest actor to play Leatherface after Dan Yeager at 6'5 1/2
In a deleted epilogue scene, Erin is being interviewed from a mental institution, where she has been living for the several decades after the events of this film. This sub-plot hearkens back to two persistent rumors about the original film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) ; in one rumor, the supposed true-life survivor of the original actual events spent her subsequent years in a mental facility. The second rumor alleges that filming was so arduous that the actress Marilyn Burns who played the original survivor went insane and was committed after shooting.
Body Count: 8.
