First, I want to say that it was impossible for me to comment the episode of the other TV show dedicated to documentaries about heists, and called DARING CAPERS. On IMDb, there was no link for this very same episode, speaking of this very same affair, same case. So I will use the episode line of the other series called MASTERMINDS, which I have not in my collection. But I guess the story is the very same explained. So, it seems that there were two similar robberies pulled in Berlin. This one, made in the late eighties, early nineties, and another one, also in Berlin, in the first days of 2013. Same proceeding, through a tunnel towards deposit boxes vault. Except that the one here, began in a very weird manner. The gangsters first attacked the bank in a ordinary way, armed robbery, entering the bank lobby, shouting - without shooting -terrorizing the customers and taking hostages. Then they asked for a talk with the police, waiting for the local SWAT - GSG 9 - team, asking for a helicopter - escape - and a big loot, ransom.. BUT, it appeared that the gangsters plan was otherwise, nothing expected for the police. Whilst they waited for the ransom and the chopper, the hoodlums cracked the safe deposit boxes, plus the cash bank reserve, and then escaped through a tunnel which they had ALREADY drilled during months - eighteen - before. So they used the tunnel to get FROM the vault and not INTO the bank. Follow me? But something upsets me. WHY pulling an ARMED robbery, instead the classic NON ARMED heist through the tunnel, and getting into the bank during the long week-end? And it is not explained how did they drilled the concrete of the bank floor? I mean the last sheet, the last part, of the bank floor. I guess they brought the drills and other tools with them when they pulled the ARMED part of their plan... Unless it was because of the alarm system, which would have been connected, engaged if the gangsters have got into the vault at night, drilled from the outside. But if they drilled during the day, whilst the police force is already on the scene, around the bank, waiting for the ransom money and the hostages release, then and only then, the alarm system would be useless, obsolete...That's the only reason I see to explain such a nonsense: why an armed robbery, with all the risks that means, to pull a job which could have been done in another way?
