The tail number of the aircraft, N9748C, is a number reserved by the FAA for the use of the entertainment industry. It is also seen in Lost, Casino Royale and others. It used to belong to a helicopter that was damaged in an accident in 1964.
There are several references to the "Fakahatchee Swamp" in this episode. Such a place does actually exist in Florida. It is located in the Fakahatchee Strand, a thread of forested swamp in Big Cypress, which is part of the Florida Everglades, on Florida State Road 29, and its formal name is "Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park."
The plane they are looking for is supposed to be a "Twin Beech," which is the common nickname for a legendary and popular plane, manufactured from 1937 to 1970, officially known as Beechcraft Model 18. It was called the Twin Beech because it had a twin, or double tail, as well as two engines.
The plane has an "N-number," more commonly known as the tail number or registration number. This plane is N9748C.
