***SPOILERS*** You can see right away that this episode of "One Step Beyond" is a bit out of the ordinary with it's host John Newland completely out of the picture and not making his usual introduction about how this, the story we are about to see, is all based on irrefutable evidence despite it's supernatural nature. What the story is actually base on, or in fact is, is an 10 year old unearth episode of an old and very obscure and forgettable 1950-51 TV series called "Stars over Hollywood" which nobody at the time ever bothered to watch.

The story "Midnight" has to do with a frustrated writer Ralph Terrence, Herbert Patterson, who's having trouble paying his bills in not having any of his works published and living on his meager salary as a file clerk in some downtown London office. Taking a walk on the London Bridge one evening Ralph bumps into this mystery woman Lilith, Gloria Saunders, at the stroke of midnight by the gongs of Big Ben and is completely captivated by her. This goes on for a number of evenings with Ralph meeting Lilth at precisely midnight on the London Bridge!

Wanting to do everything that Lilth, who seems to have some kind of control over him, wants from him Ralph go so far at her urging as mugging people in the street and in one instance murdering someone in order to get money to buy Lilth all the things, clothes jewelry and high priced wines and meals, she desires. Ralph who's now totally helpless in fighting off Lilth's wishes suddenly, after committing a string of robberies for her, realizes that it's Big Ben ringing in the midnight hour that somehow activates Lilth into coming into his life and decides to destroy the historical clock and finally get rid of her!

***SPOILERS*** In the end Ralph after cleaning, by keeping it from ringing, Big Ben's clock is freed from Lilth but not from the insanity that she caused him or in the fact that he was already insane to begin with when he met or hallucinated her. Since as the episode is about to end we see Lilth again bumping into Ralph at precisely midnight on the London Bridge and I guess like a repeating nightmare this whole crazy story is about to start all over again!
