As originally written, Joseph was not a widower, but instead never married. However, when Darren Marlar's wedding ring showed up on camera, the producers opted to write around the ring, rather than re-shooting.
The role of Eddie was not originally to be a speaking part. Michael Schmid was initially brought in only to play a bar-back who drinks a raw egg in a glass of beer during the opening sequence. When a miscommunication resulted in the actor playing Nick not being on set for the final day of shooting the bar scenes, the role of Eddie was expanded to cover Nick's absence.
The linoleum floor in Karen's kitchen had to be padded because Heather Dorff's 6-inch platform boots were so loud every time she took a step.
The effects house that created the hand of glory prop made a mistake in that the piece was supposed to be a hand only. Once the prop arrived complete with forearm, there was no time to return it for a new piece before production began.
The two voice-mails heard when Karen checks her messages were both the voice of writer/director Stuart Wahlin. Wahlin also makes two cameo appearances on camera; once as a bar patron in a cowboy hat, and another as the man urinating in the apartment building hallway.
The film was originally planned to be a four-part web series.
At the end of the closing credits, when the film's title is shown, "Hand of Glory" is accompanied by "Part I" in parentheses, suggesting a possible sequel.
The role of Karen was written specifically for Heather Dorff.
During scenes in Karen's apartment (Director of Photography Justin R. Romine's apartment in actuality), production was often slowed by intrusions from "Steve McQueen" and "Audrey Hepburn," the Romine's cats.
During one of the scenes in Karen's apartment, actress Heather Dorff stunned the cast and crew by collapsing into emotional tears in order to film a particularly emotional scene. The moment was so disturbing to co-star Darren Marlar that he was visibly shaken and upset after watching the filming of the scene he had to leave the room and compose himself before continuing.
