During the first scene in the coffee shop/bookstore, the camera zooms in on the book writing team past two sets of bookshelves, too quickly to read the titles on the books. If you pause the show to look at the books, you can see that one of the titles is "Death to Freezeframers".

In the scene where Lisa is chasing the dinosaur, she runs past a room with three dinosaurs lighting up cigarettes and smoking. This is a direct tribute to Gary Larson's comic where he suggests the "real" demise of the dinosaurs.

Only the fourth canon episode of the series with its title shown onscreen, after Simpsonid: The Telltale Head (1990), Simpsonid: Bart Gets Hit by a Car (1991), and Simpsonid: 22 Short Films About Springfield (1996)

One of the books featured at the Springfield Book Fair is Steve Hely's "How I Became A Famous Novelist," which also revolves around the deliberate creation of a bestselling novel solely for personal gain via going to the bookstore, determining what's already selling well, and slapping together a pastiche of it.

At the Springfield Book Show, Homer and his crew pass a poster for The Rock Bottom Remainders, a rock band led by Stephen King, Dave Barry and other writers moonlighting as musicians.

Parodies/or is an homage to then-filmed-in Portland, Oregon (now cancelled)TNT series "Leverage". The episode brings characters together in a Leverage Crew-type scheme, and has several elements taken from Leverage's concept. Simpsons' creator, Matt Groening, is a Portland native.

When a shelf full of Neil Gaiman books is shown, the following books are seen: Coraline, The Graveyard Book, Neverwhere, Stardust, American Gods, Anansi Boys, The Sandman, and a Death collection.

The Book Job is a brilliant Simpsons episode with at storyline thats funny and smart, with a great guest appearance from Neil Gaiman.I enjoyed the shows reference to books like Harry Potter and Twilight and the references to heist movies.

When Lisa discovers the truth about book publishing, she struggles to write her own book and prove the publishers wrong.Meanwhile,Homer and Bart are doing a much better job than Lisa ad decide to pull a heist on the publishers by making a very successful book, with the help of Principal Skinner,Patty,Professor Frink,Moe and guest star Neil Gaiman.

Couch gag: N/A There isn't one to speak of.

The episode: Lisa discovers one of her favorite authors is just a face for the back cover. Her books turn out to be written by scores of recently graduated lit majors who will do anything for money. Lisa vents to Homer about it, planting the idea in Homer's brain. He assembles a crack team, starting with Bart, to write the book with him.

Any time The Simpsons put together a group of Homer, Bart, Moe, Professor Frink, Selma, and Principal Skinner, you know you're in for a treat. That's precisely what this episode was. Neil Gaiman guest stars in this episode and does a very good job.

Favorite moment(s): Principal Skinner's original recruitment and then his pizza delivery decoy. Kansas City.

Sit down and watch this episode if you get a chance. It's cute but not too cute. The Italian Job/Ocean's Eleven spoof is a real charmer. This is an episode that ends really well, combining the comedy and sentimentality we've come to expect from The Simpsons.

Overall rating: 9/10 I highly recommend this episode. It's a fun one.
